I think markets were at their most laissez faire prior to the 20th century, we have far more restrictions and tariffs nowadays.

The rise of empire came with the beginning of the progressive era, and an increase in government control over business. The trust busting of Teddy Roosevelt started it, when the Standard Oil monopoly was broken up (Roosevelt was a Morgan man, unlike McKinley, his predecessor, who was a Rockefeller man; Rockefeller and Morgan banking interests were fighting for domination of US and world markets at the time). IOW, when the Federal Government started acting like Caesar, business freedom started going downhill.

i think everything got fucked up starting in 1913, look at any graph of inflation and war and usually they start in 1913 or 1914 (with the start of ww1) but im not talking about war here. it's about the federal reserve. if you control the money you control the country, and you have the power to manipulate everything in it.

wilson was such a twat.

these words i heard today:

seem pertinent to the issues at hand
