The Corporation (documentary)
My daughter turned me on to this documentary about multinational corporations. It has a straight anti-capitalism bias that I think is a bit knee-jerking at times, but it does illustrate a couple of really interesting points. First, it points out that corporations are treated, legally, as a person in terms of rights, etc. So, they look at corporate behavior worldwide, and they evaluate that behavior as if they were evaluating an actual person. What they find is, if you look at corporate behavior from a psychological point of view, you have to diagnose that behavior as psychotic, by definition. Secondly, they point out that, as a "person" the corporation cannot be arrested or jailed, only fined. And since the very structure is designed to minimize the personal liability of owners and managers, it encourages those working in corporations not only to act immorally (because they cannot be held directly accountable) but encourages them to view immoral (and illegal) behavior from a profit perspective. That is, if the fines are smaller than the costs associated with compliance with a given law, the law is ignored. And since corporations are both under legal obligation to maximize profit for shareholders, and must maintain a competitive advantage to stay in business, their officers and managers are constantly faced with the "need" to violate the law, and act immorally, in order to maintain corporate survival, despite the fact that this arrangement is turning people into units, and the planet into a rape victim. It's really worth a watch. ![]() The Rev |

It's quite frightning to know what kind of stuff this guys do, because almost everything that we own, or think we own, is done by these same guys that don't mind that the product is bad or the workers are starving or sufering some kind of illness.
But one should not care about this and should find alternatives, both my grandparents and my gf's grandparents live outside of the city and have small land patches to produce some of their food, mostly the vegetables, fruits and eggs/milk, so at least I know that this three groups are biological, the beef I try buying organic and most of my fish comes directly from the sea to my plate having no one betwen the buyer and the producer or in this case the fisherman is way better. |

watched it all, and it was well done.
personally I learned very little (about IBM's involvement with hitler, knew of many others). The way America does business is only part of the problem with America. (Tho I do realize it was a Canadian Program.) And as is true with most documentaries, more attention needs to be put into solutions, as we are often all to aware of the problems. Being an American I naturally have to wonder what Corporation is backing the writers of this program.

I just watched it on Netflix last week. By the Rev's remark about the Water Rebellion in Bolivia, I assumed he had as well.
Now, what can we do? The only organized political movement that I'm aware of seeks a Constitutional amendment to reverse corporate personhood is the Coffee Party. Rev, Why don't you start a thread on the topic of corporate personhood and the Coffee Party. It would carry more weight and get more people involved than if I did.

Eat the Rich!
Good one Rev. Everytime the fascists create these slimball diversions of the Constitution, it should be a bright red flag to all of us, especially those we elect to represent us, not factory's. Same with 404 gag rules preventing a medical defense. Tax shelters and breaks to fund propaganda DARE groups. Mass censorship of the airwaves, cable and print, especially about the Ganjawar and the properties of Hemp. Mandatory minimum private prison profit incentives and deterrents to jury trials, Leading to please barters for corporate piss tasting and rehabs. Nothing wrong with incorporating except when you sell out Americans. Outsourcing their jobs with trickle down bail outs isn't employing Americans. Or forcing the addiction of fossil fools over homegrown fuel. Many other examples where we the people sat by and watched or was kept at bay with lies and diversions. Sure glad its 4:20 somewhere...
Tea Pot Party: Medical marijuana advocates look to conservativesDec 9 2010 Texas activists are looking to conservatives for support on medical marijuana: “It’s not so much that we are abandoning [liberals]. Naishtat is going to give us his support, and more liberal people are going to give us their support, or at least I believe they will. But for us to try to get a bill passed while having it labeled as a liberal bill, when in actuality it’s a conservative bill that gets the government out of the position of being between patient [and doctor], is going to make it more difficult politically.” “Tax it, regulate it and legalize it,” Nelson told CelebStoner. “And stop the border wars over drugs. Why should the drug lords make all the money? Thousands of lives will be saved.” In an exclusive to CelebStoner, Willie Nelson responded to his latest marijuana arrest in Texas by calling for a new political party: “There’s the Tea Party. How about the Teapot Party? Our motto: We lean a little to the left.” Willie Nelson's Teapot Party Willie Nelson's Teapot Party facebook Willie Nelson ![]() "Suppose you go to Washington and try to get at your government. You will always find that while you are politely listened to, the men really consulted are the big men who have the biggest stakes -- the big bankers, the big manufacturers, the big masters of commerce.... The government of the United States is a foster child of the special interests." ~ The more things change, the more they stay the same. Im going to watch it on the weekend, but yes that is exactly what happens, since corporations are treated as persons the owners can do anything they want and not be held accountable for it. And yes, everything in business is looked at from a "cost-effective" point of view.
Its like some pubs around my campus, they are fined $1000 a night if they sell drinks after midnight, they stay open till almost 5 in the morning and get enough to pay the fine and earn some profit.

agree
I saw it on LINK TV and was blown away! I had to donate some dough to the station that has the balls to air that shit. I came so close to actually working for Monsanto (the worlds most evil corp.) Now, I can't believe that I ever considered such a terrible waste of my efforts. Every PERSON needs to watch this.
