"Religion" is a good word for it, as these ideas are accepted on faith, yet represent realities which don't exist. We have, like probably all countries, a mythology; ours is based on ideals such as equality, democracy, liberty, and so on. But that's all it is, a mythology. The reality is that government and banking interests are using violence and the monetary system, respectively, to bleed the average working person of a greater and greater share of what s/he earns.

I agree, J, with alot of your values. However, I can't really believe that you think that our government, and the other powers that make the rules in this country, actually have an agenda which includes spreading freedom and making the world safe for democracy. That degree of naivete just doesn't fit with a person of your intellectual level, and I am inclined to think that you're simply affecting it in order to get a rise out of people in this forum.

i think of society as the sum of its parts, society is made up of semi rational , self interested people, living a single human lifespan on this earth.

so that basically says it all - people arent evil- they are rationally self interested- sometimes that might seem as evil to some people in some circumstances, but really its just rationally self interested.

also , it might seem like shadowy groups control everything sometimes- but every person in every group on earth is living a finite lifespan with the same temporal concerns as you and i. they might have nicer houses and shit, or better parties, or whatever else, but they cant buy a fountain of youth or immortality, so ultimately even attempts at control of the kind you are alluding to, simply are transient circumstances that are happening at any one time- maybe 5 years ago the ceo of lehman bros thought he controlled the world in some sense, he certainly controlled the destiny of thousands... but today, hes unemployed... with little to no influence and power... .so was it some new shadowy conspiracy that took him down so it could rise? i dont think so , i think its just that the world and the variables in it are by nature to large and complex for any one person even a genius, to figure out continuously without fail.

so what does all that come down to ? that i consider political science in the same way the founders did- as a science. its not just about who has power and what they get passed- its about understanding how human nature and politics intersect. thats why the founders created a system of checks and balances... because there might be some bad people here and there, or even many of them in many places... but a system that checks ambition with ambition and has structures that overlap and share authority will guard against the scientific fact that people are rationally self interested and sometimes to the point of greedy and selfish....

its about understanding the propensity for evil and devising a system that will overcome this natural proclivity...

so what are the structures today - things like nato, the un, the us's hyperpower in the world, etc... these things, imo, were designed with the same types of ideas in mind- that even tho nixon might do bad things, or bush might rush us to war, etc... the system will tilt the natural inclinations of individuals whether good or bad and direct them all into the same kind of pattern that will over time increase the freedom and happiness of the masses of the world...

jefferson wrote "i fear for my country when i reflect that god is just"... but today, that system those guys set up has worked thru slavery, civil rights, a black president, a fight against global communism, etc... and even tho things werent perfect when the founders wrote our founding documents, they encapsulated an idea that could flourish over time- they gave us a target to aim for.... and like the saying goes- shoot for the moon even if you miss u land among the stars... obviously we still arent perfect and dont do perfect justice to our founding ideals, but we have done damn good and arguably better than jefferson and others might have hoped... and the future keeps comming and the structures that allow us to aspire to greater feats and acomplishments and greater wellfare for people are still in place and still causing this to evolve every day.

im not naive about the problems there are, but i see things getting better day by day not by accident but by design.
