Mr. Hu Comes to Washington...

Amidst the flowery rhetoric of "mutual deep cooperation" and all the rest, China is sending signal after signal that the comming reckoning between the 2 biggest world powers is probably going to happen sooner and be worse, than many might have hoped.

a few interesting observations about this current round of us china meetings.

first, when gates was in china last week, the chinese army had its first flight tests of its indigenously made stealth fighter.... Hu allegedly didnt know it was about to happen at the time- which means, that either the president of china was calculatingly lying to the americans, (which is scary), or he was literally in the dark about something as important as a stealth fighter test flight by the communist army (which is even more scary). Imagine the same kind of "military does things that political leadership doesnt know about" scenario, but with a nuclear weapon or nuclear test....

another thing- in all the official chinese statements and talk during this visit, they are being very careful to mostly emphasize things like "mutual growth" "cooperation" etc... which to me shows a careful diplomatic touch on their efforts.... but at the same time, they have dropped several bombshels in the midst of this nice talk- first, is a clear expression that they want to end the dollar being the reserve currency of the world. They have recently began a variety of policies desinged to get more people owning yuan....even americans can now open bank of china bank accounts and purchase juan....something previously not allowed... the idea being to get americans to buy juan so that we become dependant on their decisions and currency, in a pretty underhanded way.

also, in like 3 different diplomats speeches the communist party must have decided to use a new code word for removing america as sole superpower... pretty clever of them, and it belies a more sophisticated and subtle way of doing things.... they keep talking about a "new era". so , 'we have to figure out how to work together in this 'new era'" or 'america and china must not compete in this 'new era'"... the way it has been used over and over is to have the subtle implication that the new era is an era in which the chinese will and expect to call the shots.

A New Era? What to Make of the 17th Congress of the Chinese Communist Party - Carnegie Endowment for International Peace

the only way for america to keep up and to keep its place in the world is to concentrate minds and prove that china cant out-america us. i certainly hope we do... a part of me thinks that this is just what we need to get us going again- it took sputnik for us to land a man on the moon remember.

What China wants is to make sure that we don't fuck with them. In our eyes, they are the bogeymen, but they have more reason to fear us than the other way around. They are not the ones with military bases in over 100 countries around the world, nor have they used nuclear weapons against their enemies. The USA has a 100-year history of aggressive imperialism throughout the world, and shows no sign of slowing down, if their military adventurism in the middle east is any indication - it is clear to the rest of the world that control of the world's oil supply is our goal.

So, instead of getting in our way, China has bought themselves an insurance policy. They hold over $2 Trillion in US Gov't Bonds. Sure, it may seem like we have the upper hand, because we can say, "Fuck you!" and not pay, but that's only the way it seems. With all that paper, should the Chinese start to feel encroached upon, or exploited by the US, they only need to press the SELL button to flood our bond market with excess supply, crashing the price, and setting off a panic in our financial markets. They have the power to wound us severely in this way, at a loss to them that they can manageably tolerate.

They are not looking for war with us, or any other kind of conflict. They just want to grow their economy, and take advantage of the US for the huge export market that it is. And they've taken the necessary steps, non-militarily, to ensure that that is the best way forward for both sides, whether the US likes it or not.

China is already on its way to number 1, america is crumbling to pieces, why would number 1 need to worry about a country rapidly falling down the ranks on its own volition...

J, you monger fear worse than anyone did during the cold war, it seems as if your whole existence is to fear the very country that makes all of your precious rock band controllers...
