Portugal FTW.

I know this isn't newnews.. but regardless.

I heard last year that Mexico and Brazil had done the same, however it doesn't seem to be the case.. it probably just wasn't true. Anyway.. RIGHT ON PORTUGAL! :bigspliff:

US Rejects 'A Resounding Success' Might dip into Drugwar Profits

Portugal Drug Decriminalization 'A Resounding Success'
Will Britain Respond? No.
By Tom Chivers, The Telegraph - Tuesday, September 28 2010
Time magazine reports that Europe’s most liberal drug policy has been a huge success. Not, as you might think, those hippie Dutch, but Portugal, where possession of all drugs for personal use was decriminalised in 2001.

Why can’t the US legalize drugs?
There’s ‘too much money in it,’ Clinton says

"The ultimate source of the problem is American demand for illicit drugs -- and "the most straightforward way to reduce demand, of course, would be legalization under a tightly controlled regime."

"While legalization has been proposed by many people over the years it has very little chance of being enacted by Congress, and therefore is not for the time being a realistic policy choice."

Whenever I hear a professor at my university talk about drug legalization, I always mention the Portugal Case.

But yeah, this was 2001, no one else has followed yet, way to go mass media.
