GOP attempting to ban college kids from voting, among others

Fascist fucking pigs. Why would anyone want to be associated with this party? They are also going after minorities and the poor by requiring a photo ID to vote.

Who wants more of these thugs in office?

And the teabaggers are of course just as bad

Tea party leader: Restricting vote to property owners ‘makes a lot of sense’:
Quote:
"The Founding Fathers originally said, they put certain restrictions on who gets the right to vote," Phillips said. "It wasn't you were just a citizen and you got to vote."

"Some of the restrictions, you know, you obviously would not think about today," he continued. "But one of those was you had to be a property owner. And that makes a lot of sense, because if you’re a property owner you actually have a vested stake in the community."
So the tebaggers aren't only against the poor but those dam educated city slickers too.

i can understand the property owning thing, but i think that by todays standards even renters and people on leases would have to be counted as property owners. i mean how many people who live in big cities actually own property? i dont think many do.

I think the "property owners only" rule was to prevent a majority of non-property owners from voting peoples' property into other hands (namely, theirs). And that seems reasonable to me. However, this rule was put into effect at a time when property owners had far fewer resources available to them to prevent others from acquiring property.

In fact, if you look at the matter literally, very little property is owned by anyone today. Banks own almost all the real estate, and assets of any value (businesses, patents, etc.) are owned by corporations. And with half our income going to the government, and half of what's left (or more if you have a car loan or credit cards) going to the bank, it becomes nearly impossible to save the kind of money necessary to purchase any kind of property outright.

Back then, the world and your life were what you made of them. Now, it's a different story.
