Well, the guy wasn't interested in getting the money, he just wanted to get in jail ASAP so he could get treated. Although he could have robbed the bank and gotten himself treated with the money.

You said earlier you were under your parents health insurance coverage so even with a catastrophic policy you/they wouldn't be required to pay tens of thousands. Get sick without insurance and see how quick those tens of thousands start piling up and if you don't pay and you own anything, it's gone.

i've been to the hospital once in twenty years for something relatively minor, if we weren't on NJCARE there was no way we could have paid for it

In Canada giving people treatment is legally a human right.
In the States... not sure what is up with this new healthcare package, but I DONT think that mean that without coverage you will get treated, I understand it that you HAVE to have coverage/register for Gov't plan. My details on it are foggy.
