but seriously, now that europe is united, and its now in its first ever serious crisis... and the strongest country in europe, germany, starts to bulshit about having mock coffins of the euro and basically flip flopping from wanting to be united to being the first to destroy the union.

Its pretty ridiculous and it shows how different and more fucked up the relations in europe are, than here in america. in america we talk about having problems and trying to fix them as a country.... in europe , they just spent the last 10 years patting themselves on the back and preaching about how much better and more liberal and great they were than us american hicks.... and now at the first sign of trouble, they openly talk about dissolving and destroying the union.

NOw in times like this, i think, what would Abraham Lincoln do if he were in angela merkels shoes? Well ill tell you what he sure as hell WOULDNT DO- and thats be the biggest louded person to want to ruin the newly found union and go back to some dark age of europe... instead of looking at the problems it faces as a true european "union" like they supposedly have already been for 10 years. Its hard not to imagine all the civil war rhetoric here and apply it to the situation there. This union must be preserved,

J, I'd like to hear your views as to why it is europe is so much more hip and with it than the us?

For shit and gigles, here's my view on what europe is.

I think that most of the countries in europe see them selfs as national states. Europe has been through a lot. Really. From the so called dark ages (i loved them) through the first world war, on to the second. Within this, each country has a long history. Some are monarchies, like my country. Some arent. All have been. At some point. I also think that most countries at some point kicked some serious ass on the world seen. So we all have a lot of unwarranted self importance. This sometimes translates to nationalism.

When I look across the pond, the one europe had conqured long before the us was even a brainfart, I think most of us europeans think you guys are like.. young.. Listen, J, as a country, there's just some victories you haven't had, and some defeats you haven't experienced. This clouds the way you think about democracy, and freedom. But you get capitalism. Europe invented the democracy we know today. It arose as an reaction to the draconian ways of the churches and clerigy in europe. Somehow this is collectively in the mind of most native europeans. Europe wasn't founded on gunning down guys with bows for weapons, it was founded on years upon years of new ideological thinking, struggle, and opression.

Funny thing, I fucking hate europe.

I have no idea what I awas trying to say here J. I just don't think you can quite grasp the nuances of european politics.

I kinda wished we'd joined the Euro but then now I'm kinda glad we didn't...

Nice just being able to tour around Europe without having to change currency.
