Stephen Colbert receives permission from FEC to create Super PAC
FEC allows Colbert to form ‘super PAC’ for 2012 elections - The Washington Post
Should be interesting to see where this goes.

one article i read said that this is gonna be his way of making a joke of the money in politics.
a pretty opportune idea if you ask me. Obama is about to earn and blow ONE BILLION DOLLARS (yes thats a doctor evil voice) to run for re-election. and he has the "audacity" to go out and attack "millionaires and billionairs on corporate jets"....who by his definition of the term are any people who make over 200k and any couples who make over 250k. Now i dunno about you, but the guy who lives in the nicest house on my street maybe takes in 300k a year, the nicest house in my city, maybe a million. So theres probably like half a dozen people in my entire city that could be called "millionaires and billionaires"... but by obamas definition, and keep in mind, this is his attack line, by his definition he is declaring war on anybody who is just slightly doing better than drowning, and claiming that the guy on my street with the 260 thousand dollar house is flying a corporate jet? WTF? but then he goes out and blows 1 billion dollars to try to brainfuck people into believing that nonsense and get reelected so he can write 2 more books and earn another 15 million next year while flying for FREE on his own ultra luxurious corporate jet. ... but politics aside, this would be cool if colbert can use this as a platform to attack both parties and their high finance and bought constituencies. corporate fatcats for reps, union fatcats for dems. .... its a fucking joke, and as mccain said years ago, campaign finance reform is our only hope. if every candidate who got past a certain threshold was given taxpayer money to fund his campaign....it would let the debates be about the issues, instead of who can have the best 527 group attack ads and the flashiest buttons and greek temple podiums for their choreographed campaign rallies.... and then, when in office, the winner wouldnt get a call every 15 minutes from joe union boss or joe hedge fund schmuck who wants a provision of the new law to benefit his little organization (it sounds like something fat tony would say).... take the money out of politics, and i honestly think our politicians would remember who pays for their elections- the ENTIRE population, and just maybe, they would actually vote for whats in those peoples best interest instead of the 20 donors who went to obamas 40,000 a plate fundraiser. |

I admire Obama for taking a stand on tax breaks for the wealthy. Usually democrats don't have the balls to do things like that.
But yes, I like that Colbert seems to be using this as a platform to point out the ludicrous aspect of legal loopholes in campaign financing. I think it's pretty dangerous to make an election system where you absolutely must be able to secure huge donations to have a chance at winning. You could argue it has been that way for decades, but the recent ruling saying corporations have the same donation rights as individuals is even scarier imo.

Colbert is a genius of political satire. And his popularity ensures that an entire generation of Americans will see politics for the full of shit joke that it really is. Bravo, Stephen!
