We still got $649 billion to spend on the military
House Overwhelmingly Approves Record $649 Billion Military Spending Bill
Fretting Over Deficit, House Still Approves Record Budget by Jason Ditz, July 08, 2011 America’s economy is continuing to struggle. With talk of a “double-dip recession,” massive unemployment and a budget deficit so large that financial analysts are openly talking about the US defaulting on its national debt, all spending is subjected to serious scrutiny. Except for the Pentagon, where after days of debate about amendments finally came to an end and both parties came together to overwhelmingly approve a $649 billion military spending bill, assuring the upcoming military budget is, as it has been in so many recent years, the largest in human history. House Republican Policy Committee chair Tom Price (R – GA) praised the vote, saying approving the hike in military spending proved “responsible leadership” for a nation fighting several wars. In reality, however, it shows the stark disconnect between Congress’ feigned seriousness about tackling the budget deficits and the enormous military budget. Most other NATO member nations are rushing to cut their military spending to get the financial houses in order. In America, this debate has been all but shelved in favor of what is perceived as the politically safe move, spending two thirds of a trillion dollars that they don’t have. ******************** ******************** *** Where in the fuck is that tea party we heard so much about? |

the moves that the public seems to want (less military spending, legalizing drugs, taxing the super-wealthy and non-paying corporations, etc) are somehow completely off the table, but stealing pension money and cutting social programs is somehow acceptable. our political climate is fucking toxic.
but, you know, the fever usually gets pretty bad right before it breaks...

Boner says "no tax increases for the job creators".
whoever they are. Jobs are not being created fast enough to keep up with layoffs. translated , he's saying the house won't tax the corporations that run the country, or their wealthy investors, by cutting into tax breaks/tax exemptions. But he'll gladly cut more social programs of the less fortunate, and increase their taxes. |

Double dip recessions have only occurred twice, once in 1937 and once in 1982. Both were caused by radical Fed policy. In the first case, it was a drastic increase in the reserve rate, causing an instant money shortage as banks collapsed credit (called in loans) to meet reserve requirements. In the second, the Fed upped the overnight rate to like 25%, in order to put an end to the consumer inflation caused by the Eisenhower-Nixon monetary inflation, causing a sharp but short lived second recession.
Fed policies now point more toward hyperinflation than monetary contraction, so a double dip is not something to worry about. What I expect will happen is a fairly stagnant recovery, with a mild boom or two between now and around 2016-2020, at which time the China Bubble will burst, causing the next recession. Of course, with the crazy monetary inflation we're playing with now, hyperinflation isn't off the table, as the Federal government tries to keep the printing presses running faster than increases in interest rates, in an attempt to inflate their way out of their un-payable debt. This has been the preferred way to deal with overgrown national debts in the past. It is the rare country that defaults. ![]() The Rev |

..and this doesn't include the under-the table- stuff-..like Lybia....
spending must be reduced dramatically, and it woudn't kill you to simplfy the tax code, but it would reduce influence peddling i can't in good conscience begrudge a person who refuses to pay a tax to fund a corrupt governments world-affairs

I just don't think the government will understand until there are bloody violent protests/revolts.
It's the one thing that works. but alas, most of you were too young to remember the riots of the 60's. violence works...ask any american politician. |

Tell that to Ghandi, MLK, and the Women's Suffrage movement.

Obama Threatens to Withhold Social Security Checks from Seniors and Vets
President Barack Obama raised the stakes in the third straight day of budget talks on Tuesday by warning that senior citizens and veterans may suffer first if the debt ceiling is not raised by August 2. The president said in an interview with U.S. television network CBS that checks to recipients of the Social Security retirement program may not go out in early August if he and congressional leaders do not agree on a debt deal. "I cannot guarantee that those checks go out on August 3rd if we haven't resolved this issue," Obama said. "Because there may simply not be the money in the coffers to do it," Obama said. He said veterans checks and disability benefits could also be affected without a deal. |

you only know about mlk, ghandi, and womens sufferage ? of all things, from what you think you read in a book.the 60's riots were not a peaceful demonstration by even your measure. so please stop trolling my replies, and try (if you can) to address the topic of the post for a change.. your obvious dislike for old people has been properly noted and reported. |

And I have nothing against old people, my grandfather served with distinction in the Pacific Theater of WW2 and I am proud to call him one of my heroes. I would go on listing old people I am fond of but for some reason do not feel it necessary to prove such trivialities to you. Have a wonderful day.
