The Fall of Rupert Murdoch's Empire?

The Fall of Rupert Murdoch's Empire? News of the World Stops Publication!

The News of The World were in big trouble recently when it was discovered they were hacking into the voice mail of high profile celebrities and politicians, and have had to fork out millions in compensation recently. Short jail terms have been served and cases are on going.

Apparently the FBI are investigating allegations of phone hacking by News Corp,

Fox could lose their federal broadcasting licenses.

I doubt Fox will lose it's ability to broadcast, but at the same time I don't see Rupert recovering from this before he croaks.

Which I guess is some justice, you'd think the man responsible for the bitterly partisan, hostile and unproductive state of journalism that infests our media would do prison time, or in a perfect world be lined against a wall.

Newscorp. is not going to recover from this..not surprisingly there is very little coverage of this on Fox, and it's wall to wall on MSNBC

And the higher they rise, the harder they fall.

Unexplained, but not Suspicious? Doh!

During the years 1916-1937, William Randolph Hearst created a yellow journalism campaign to associate hemp with marijuana. Even though smoking hemp, like most fibers, will just make you sick, Hearst, along with his friend Pierre Dupont, succeeded in outlawing hemp in America. They actually robbed the world of an environmental cash crop. Why would they do such a thing? Because instead of using hemp for paper, clothing, fuel, oils, resins, medicines, and many other uses, we now use paper and synthetic petrochemicals. Hearst owned huge forests and interests in lumber mills. Dupont made synthetic fuels and fibers (nylon, rayon, plastics) from petroleum.

In a statement to the paper, investigators refused to confirm Hoare's identity: "At 10.40am today [Monday 18 July] police were called to Langley Road, Watford, following the concerns for welfare of a man who lives at an address on the street. Upon police and ambulance arrival at a property, the body of a man was found. The man was pronounced dead at the scene shortly after." Investigators added that "the death is currently being treated as unexplained, but not thought to be suspicious."

Gary Webb’s “Dark Alliance” Returns to the Internet

Restored Dark Alliance website Aug. 18, 1996
Backers of CIA-led Nicaraguan rebels brought cocaine to poor L.A. neighborhoods in early '80s to help finance war -- and a plague was born.

The rest of the story: 'Kill the Messenger' does what the U.S. press wouldn't do—ask hard questions about the campaign against Gary Webb.

Kill the Messenger: The Tragic Life of Gary Webb

Kill the Messenger
Editor's note: It's not easy when a colleague, let alone a journalist you hold in the highest regard, commits suicide. When Gary Webb took his own life two years ago, he and I had both been working at the Sacramento News & Review. In the days that followed, I fielded numerous phone calls from well-meaning folks who were convinced that he had been shot by the agency he went after in his famed "Dark Alliance" series. My personal belief is that the CIA didn't need to kill Gary; they'd already set his demise in motion by employing "unnamed sources" to discredit him in the nation's major print media. To the very end, Gary complained that no one had ever disproved a single fact in his series. The fact that so many respected newspapers so eagerly took this bait, and that one of our nation's last true investigative reporters had been driven to such desperation, is something I could not reconcile then or now. Julian Assange sought to show the people the dishonest and corrupt way diplomacy is committed in this country and abroad.

Murdoch and his ilk used blackmail and insane hyperbole to build an evil empire of talking heads that pushed fascism and demagoguery as a rule.

Now whose supporters are in the wrong here?

it is kinda funny tho that all the liberal people on msnbc and here were all excited about lulsec and anonymous and julian assange for doing the exact same thing and now they have such false outrage that news of the world did it.

the only reason its not apples to apples is because you dont like the people doing it in one case and do in the other.

It's not so much the phone hacking as the lies, following cover up and bribery of police that is considered serious.
