GDP is only one factor though. That's the point. If the GDP is high but the average citizen is poor then things are going wrong.

The middle class is a myth invented by the rich to keep the poor happy
it goes The Rich The Working class Scratters (underclass that doesnt really count as part of society because they contribute nothing to it chavs, junkies etc)

I been watching the world stock markets last few weeks.
The US and pretty much the world was in a downward turn . I notice to market in america is up today....based on bullshit ! "new unemployment" was down to only 400,000 ? (which again doesn't count the > 20 million actually still unemployed) Housing prices are again being artifically inflated ? (The bubble was patched with bailout money, so now it's re-inflating) And Exxon reporting record profits...which means nothing for the economy. (since they don't pay their taxes)...?

another of my posts on newsvine...
Without revenue increases from the upper 10% of the wealthy, America is doomed, and so is any proposal from the republican'ts, that does not eliminate tax breaks, tax exemptions, and tax loopholes. The PEOPLE have spoken. Obama has heard from the masses, and this is what the majority of the population wants/needs. Just that the grossly wealthy pay their fair share for a change. A move that many millionairs/billionairs support. By cutting social programs you are again, laying the American debt onto the backs of those who can least afford it, and destroying programs our parents/grand parents worked so hard to provide us with. Leaping downwards........ not stepping upwards.

Only the Super-Rich Can Save Us!
Ralph Nader, Ted Turner and Peter Lewis:
Billionaires Against Bull, Going from Charity to Justice Posted on July 17, 2011 In his novel Ralph Nader imagines placing seventeen billionaires in one room to solve the country’s problems, from the redevelopment of New Orleans to a reassessment of corporate citizenry and a plan to address environmental issues. Ralph Nader discussed his political novel with two of the billionaires depicted in his book, businessmen and philanthropists Ted Turner and Peter Lewis. This “LIVE from the NYPL” event was held at Celeste Bartos Forum of the New York Public Research Library of Humanities and Social Sciences following the publication of an abridged version of the nove Only the Super-Rich Can Save Us! via – C-SPAN Video Library. from the archives: From Charity to Justice by Ralph Nader Book TV: In Depth: Ralph Nader Ralph Nader: What if…? Only Ralph Nader and the Super Rich Can Save Us (2009) Only the Super-Rich Can Save Us! ![]() Ralph Nader On Philanthropy at the New York Public Library On May 4th 2011, Ralph Nader appeared at the New York Public Library with two billionaires — Ted Turner and Peter Lewis. LIVE From the NYPL: Ralph Nader, Ted Turner & Peter Lewis Making utopia practical In nearly a half century fighting abuses of power, Ralph Nader has seen the worst in people, from venality in politicians to arrogance in corporate executives. And Nader knows as well as anyone that corporate control of Washington has kept the US from implementing the policy we need to fight climate change and prepare for peak oil. Now, Nader’s written his first novel, “Only the Super-Rich Can Save Us!” which he calls a “practical utopia.” ![]() Second Group Seeks a Vote on Medical Marijuana Ohio -- Two different groups are moving ahead with plans to put medical-marijuana issues to a statewide vote in Ohio next year. While Cleveland billionaire Peter Lewis already had sent up smoke signals about organizing and funding a medical-marijuana ballot issue, another group quietly has been laying the groundwork for a constitutional amendment.

Fractional-reserve commercial banks have metastasized since their central banks had all restraints removed, starting with Nixon's repudiation of the remnants of the gold standard. Since the banksters also run the governments, they have been able to run wild, even by fractional-reserve standards. But now, with the double dip in this Fed-bank depression, have they brought the temple down on their heads, too? We can only hope for a little justice in this world.-Lew Rockwell
