RadioAstron - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

this is pretty poetic. as russia launches a new space telescope, the largest in the world.... we are selling out old shuttle parts for scrap.

Bush wouldnt have let this happen. just saying.

still cool science and tech wise tho...

Classic penis envy.

Sorry John, the title made me do it.

I hear scrap prices are good.... maybe it'll help ease the budget?

TBH the Russians always were best at space exploration on a budget. Compare pics of the interior of a russian capsule to a US capsule you'll see what I mean.

russians just haven't figured it out yet.

human space travel in the 21st century is only affordable in the movies.

but maybe now will get better films out of Russia.

and didn't the us space telescope have to be fixed twice before it actually worked ?

Some things are more important than education or healthcare, like getting sick ass pictures of stars exploding and shit.

I'd like to see public colleges and universities reduced in cost to the point where student loans aren't necessary, like it used to be back in the 70's. I don't like the whole idea of young people entering their lives already indebted. Whether it's to a bank, or the government, makes no difference. It prevents, from the very start, a person from having the choice to live debt free and not get caught up in that trap.

All Unnatural UFO's Originate on Earth...

Hubble Videos

The money is in outer space exploration for resources to sell. I'm in favor of gutting NASA for the waste it has been. Like the Ganjawar costing a trillion dollars, one mans meat is another mans poison. Those collecting part of the trillion dollars are probably all in favor of caging stoners. Those selling billions of dollars of products to NASA are sad to see it end, in spite of its lack of producing anything except pollution and space garbage. The smart money would be investing in inner space. The universe in-between the atoms our microscopes can't yet reach. But that might discover preventions and cures and the moneysluts are only interested in "treatment". All chirping about their parties method to deal with the symptoms while not getting near the disease. Once again Teabog trolls like Qerry embarrass America while the world looks on and believes everyone is a shallow, greedy punk.

Budget of NASA

Annual budget, 1958-2010
$471.23 billion dollars

NASA's FY 2008 budget of $17.318 billion represents about 0.6% of the $2.9 trillion United States federal budget during the year, or about 35% of total spending on academic scientific research in the United States.

By way of comparison, total spending over this period by the National Science Foundation was roughly one-fourth of NASA's expenditures: $101.5 billion, or $2 billion a year.

The NASA (National Aeronautic Space Administration) budget for FY 2010 is $18.7 billion, $900 million more than the year before. This is 1% of total discretionary spending. It is also small when compared to other budget spending:

* Defense - $666 billion.
* Education - $122.2 billion.
* Transportation - $118.6 billion.
* Health and Human Services - $102.5 billion.
* Energy - $65.1 billion.
* Housing and Urban Development - $53.7 billion.

Maybe the Teabogs pressured for the killing....
Afraid they might discover climate change...

What Does the NASA Budget Provide?:
The NASA budget will advance global climate change research by developing new sensors for a space-based research system using satellites and the International Space Station.

By coming to Canada for my Wife education , being an international student, we still racked up nearly $90k in student loans.... That's her undergrad and grad/masters work...

Shockingly... that is still pennies compared to if she'd stayed in the States for the same thing.

This year we've paid it down $12k, though, so an end is feasible.

But now she "HAS" to have a good paying job to be "FREE".

All in all, it has been worth it, but there are still the 'oh fuck it days'.

The Hubble Ultra Deep Field is a region of space that can be covered by your thumbnail at arm's length.
