That is a shame, one of the few politicians here I thought actually had some integrity.

Not only that. He was one of Canada's most respected politicians. The way he handled every debate he was in, he was a man of candor and respect - yet still stood his ground when necessary.

Lets just say my parents were conservative, but still had much respect for the man.

Layton also was wise in his encouragement and interaction with young Canadians. He understood that the youth are going to be running the country in years to come, and that they have a huge voice in how things are run in this Country. He knew that we were the ones to bring the change, the only ones. The old fuckers running shit now are a lost cause...

Mad respect for Layton. (even though I've voted Green every year that I have been able to...)

one thing that keeps coming up in every article you'll read about layton is that in every debate he never, ever made personal attacks against other politicians, and just stuck to straight up politics, and thats rare nowadays.

ill miss him.

Truth to that Mikey. He was VERY professional, in my opinion.
Seeing the 'mud slinging' ads here the first time sorta' made my head spin.

In my experience, even if people didn't like the NDP as a whole, they still weren't that quick to trash Layton or that the NDP has done good things.

RIP Mr. Layton

I agree with all the sentiments expressed thusfar in this thread. A respectable politician if there ever was one. Its sad that he's gone.

At the risk of ruining the tribute type course of this thread, it seems to me that after the liberal party has failed still to find a vote-worthy leader, the unprecedented surge of the NDP in Quebec and elsewhere ruining the liberals and splitting the vote, it's likely that Layton's absence may result in more terms of Conservative majorities.
There is just no strong or clear alternative for the center and the left is... well, missing Jack.
