I agree, I only say the farewell address was more bluntly directed at the MIC.

Interesting... the latest polls I've read about, clearly put Obama dead even with the republican candidates.

All politicians have lost the respect of the population.

Although I understand the concerns many people have about certain failures of Obama as a President, I still find it amazing that anyone could find a serious alternative in any of the current Republican candidates, except for MAYBE Jon Huntsman, who is unlikely to receive the Republican nomination anyway due to the fact that he is somewhat logical.

Mitt Romney is so indecisive in his opinions and principles, how do you think he would be when deciding what to do about extremely important decisions facing the country? He can't even decide what he believes in, and in general portrays himself as a plastic, weasel-like human being, who is now renovating his $12 million mansion in Cali and is going to quadruple the size of it. I don't even necessarily care that he's actually doing that, but to do that now, in this economy while running for President is absolutely retarded and shows a complete lack of judgment, once again.

Rick Perry has strong opinions, and I think he genuinely believes in them. But his opinions are religious-based and not fact-based opinions and that is worrying. IMO, anybody who openly and proudly denies scientific facts and consensus should not be President of this country. Not to mention, he has publicly suggested that Texas has the option of succeeding from the Union. And now he is running for President of the UNITED States of America. Isn't that ironic?

Michele Bachmann is out of her mind. She's a wack-job. Imagine her as President. Seriously.
During the Republican debate recently, Tim Pawlenty questioned her accomplishments as a Congresswoman, and the only thing she could reference was her creation of the "Light bulb Freedom of Choice Act", so every American could choose what light bulbs they want to use. Enough said.

Jon Huntsman believes in evolution. He believes in climate change. He believes in civil unions. And he is consequently at the bottom of the barrel of the Republican race, down there with Herman Cain and Rick Santorum, who are both insane. That says a lot.

criticizing Romney for creating jobs is week..especially in this economy...

Obama's had a rough summer, the" we're stll a triple AAA country"/ chinook ""address" was embarrassingly bad and ill=conceived

the job approval is bad..but michele bachmans within the margin of error and not one rational sane person honestly believes she has any chance

..on the bright side so is ron paul

change doesn't come from the middle of the road

ron paul came in 2nd place in the ames straw poll and nobody seemed to care.

I think he may be too old...and possibly to unswayable, for the new defensive/aggressive republican party.

Nader/Paul/Kucinich/Johnson = No Drug War

The invisible man – challenging bipartisan orthodoxies of thought

Conor Friedersdorf has an illuminating OpEd on the difference between press coverage of “protest candidates” like John Huntsman and coverage of Ron Paul/Gary Johnson.

Huntsman is challenging orthodoxies of thought that afflict the GOP alone, and taking positions that reflect the conventional wisdom in the media [...] In contrast, Johnson and Paul are challenging orthodoxies of thought that are bi-partisan in nature and implicate much of the political and media establishment. [...]

For questioning America’s aggressive, interventionist foreign policy and its failed War on Drugs, policies that are tremendously costly, consequential, and executed in ways that are immoral and demonstrably damaging to our civil liberties, Paul and Johnson aren’t given points for speaking uncomfortable truths, shining light on evasions, or affecting the political conversation for the better. [...]

But a protest candidate that challenges the bipartisan consensus on foreign policy, the war on drugs, or civil liberties is ignored, no matter the substantive quality of their arguments on those issues. And if their fans complain, it is pointed out that they don’t have a chance of winning. The salutary effect that protest candidates can have on political discourse even if they don’t win is completely forgotten.

I think he’s nailed it pretty well.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich (D-OH), the leading advocate for peace in the Congress, today offered a broad critique of the National Defense Authorization Act which continues our disastrous policies in Libya, allows for permanent, global war and reauthorizes harmful provisions of the Patriot Act.

Ralph Nader Will Organize 2012 Primary Challengers Against Obama

Ralph Nader is convinced that Barack Obama will win reelection in 2012, but that won’t stop him from trying to organize a slate of Democrats in the coming months to challenge the president in party primaries next year.

Nader told POLITICO on Wednesday that he is working on bringing together about half a dozen presidential candidates who could “dramatically expand a robust discussion within the Democratic Party and among progressive voters across the country.” Each would focus on a specific issue where the far left says Obama hasn’t done enough, including the environment, labor and health care.

In an op-ed published Wednesday morning by Bloomberg News, Nader laid out the argument that…Obama is “really in a very, very powerful position” to win reelection, Nader told POLITICO, and the slate of candidates wouldn’t be meant to give Obama a serious challenge for the Democratic nomination, but instead to “structurally pull him in the opposite direction” than he’s taken since his 2008 campaign.

If there was a group of people from the president’s own party geared up to debate him in Iowa and New Hampshire, “it is harder for him to say no,” Nader said. “His strategists can say, ‘Don’t fight it, Barack; use it, revel in it; you’re good on your feet.”

Billionaires Against Bull, Going from Charity to Justice
Posted on July 17, 2011
In his novel Ralph Nader imagines placing seventeen billionaires in one room to solve the country’s problems, from the redevelopment of New Orleans to a reassessment of corporate citizenry and a plan to address environmental issues. Ralph Nader discussed his political novel with two of the billionaires depicted in his book, businessmen and philanthropists Ted Turner and Peter Lewis.

And this man, this takes the cake and frankly shows what utter bullshit these 'polls' are.

Yo do know there are nearly 220,000,000 people who are eligible to vote in a Presidential election in this country so everyone who they managed to suck into an unsolicited phone conversation has power over ~150,000 opinions on whether or not those who watch Fox News think Obama is doing a good job.

Yeah man, 100% correct, your poll speaks for itself...

Job approval polls have proven to be an extraordinarily accurate predictor of presidential elections..and if you look at state by state results(i think real clear politics has one) the numbers are grim..so, if things don't change dramatically in the next 14 months, you're looking at a one term president, and no amount of wishful thinking is going to change that

The Real Obama » Counterpunch: Tells the Facts, Names the Names

Quote:
There are plenty of Obama loyalists out there. I know leftists who still forlornly try to make a case for the man and will stay true to the end. But if they vote for him next year, it won’t be for any positive reason, such as the one that sent them delightedly to the polls in 2008, in search of hope. They’ll gesture to Rick Perry or some other Republican challenger and fall back on the “lesser of two evils” argument. But will this work with the sort of blue-collar union people and independents who voted for Ronald Reagan in 1980 because they thought Carter was a wimp who couldn’t handle the economy?

Bill Clinton survived incompetence and scandal because enough Americans felt like somewhat disillusioned brides after two or three years of facing the Real Thing across the breakfast table. “Dump him? For who? Anyway, he’s promised me he’ll try to do better.” He’s a flake and a liar, but he’s our flake and liar.

No one feels like that about Obama. The object of mass adoration in 2008, he’s not a man who elicits mass affection. People whose vote he courts are genuinely confused. Does he believe in anything beyond raising a billion dollars for the 2012 campaign? Now he’s on the trail again, assuring people without jobs that he’ll put them back to work. Reasonably, his audiences aren’t convinced. His sell-out in the face-off over the debt ceiling is a noose around the neck of any Democrat in the upcoming campaign arguing that Obama and his party are the last best defense against ongoing destruction of the safety net. Of course, as one reader reminds me, being a black man in authority carries great danger in itself. Too much fight, and people start showing up with guns at your meetings plus signs about watering the tree of liberty with the blood of tyrants. Too little fight and you’re a weakling. It’s never right.

Meanwhile, the Texas Governor Rick Perry, who entered the Republican race a week ago, is surging against his opponents. A Gallup poll now has him in a commanding lead over the “moderate” Republican Mitt Romney, with 29 per cent saying they are most likely to support Perry. Former front-runner Mitt Romney (17 per cent), Ron Paul (13 per cent), and Michele Bachmann (10 per cent) are next, with four other candidates at 4 per cent or less. In the east Romney leads Perry by one point and lags everywhere else in the country.

The conservative Perry’s done this by staking out fierce positions, just as Reagan did against Carter. It doesn’t matter that the opinions grate on the sensibilities of the liberal commentariat. He’s not after their approval. Perry’s a tough campaigner, not like Bob Dole, whom Clinton had the luck to face in 1996. His record as governor of Texas is freighted with scandalous paybacks to big contributors, but in scale they scarcely match the huge pay-off now being promoted by the White House with the drumbeat campaign by Obama, Obama’s Attorney General, the Secretary of HUD, the Fed and the attorneys general of 49 states to guarantee the banksters permanent immunity against both civil and criminal lawsuits for any of their recent fraud, perjury and grand larceny. Once again, a New York Attorney General, Eric Schneiderman, is gumming up the cozy deal. But as CounterPuncher Pierre Sprey writes, “we can predict a short public career for poor Eric, ending soon in another wiretap-fueled scandal — or, since we are now a banana republic, a regrettable accident.” And guess what, Warren Buffett did just drop $5 billion into BoA and then held a $30K a plate fundraiser for Barack Obama

And for the people talking about Huntsman. The repubs are never going to run a Mormon RINO (don't take this as my opinion of Huntsman).
