scary: republicans' views on science

I've voted democrat for every election I've been eligible for (not likely this cycle) and I was just looking over this list via NPR. Hunstman was the only one I saw who had an even remotely viable opinion.

The fact that these are the people who are running for president does not bode well. Never mind their ideas for policy, however fallacious-when a person who is in the position of president makes the types of statements some of those candidates...yikes.

Also, this is not an endorsement of republican candidates, let me be frank. and not shirley. nor democrat, if that's not also clear.

In Their Own Words: GOP Candidates And Science : NPR

and I know the apostrophe in the title in inappropriate. I can't edit it out.

It doesn't matter who you vote for, democrat or republican, they will both screw you.

Why don't you just vote for Ron Paul?

Really, I didn't realize the republicans had such wonderful ideas. Please do tell!

Now you are just being a pussy and trying to avoid conflict - take a stand.

This isn't exactly a new phenomenon within the republican party when it comes to their view of god & science, and then attempting to legislate their unique morale values (e.g. wacked out dogma) into law. At least solidly within the past 12 plus years and many would argue it 1st began under Nixon ("HIPPIES!").

Well by taking a stand and voting for Dr. Paul and then keep pressure on Congress to actually work with him (which isn't likely unless we can come together as a nation). In all reality it's been OUR lack of forcing Congress to uphold it's oath that has led us to this point... imo anyways...

I've registered independant for every election I've been eligible for ...

Until the republicans proved to me that the democratic party needs help in voting republican'ts out of office.

This year I registered democrat.

That doesn't make any sense to me, why do we focus on this bullshit broken two party system (well one party with two "puppet parties") that does nothing but divide us and keep the country from uniting and actually fixing the problems we have?

Would you rather we be a pluralistic Israel?

I doubt it would make much of a difference, my problem is that while we're all being entertained with the back and forth bullshit infighting between two parties that supposedly hate each other, they continue on with the same policies that have been in place since at least 1963... Personally if people would vote for our leaders based on their past voting record and not the bullshit that flies out of their mouths we'd all be better off. Of course that would require the citizens of the country to be informed and not in some lackadaisical trance...

Please elaborate. Sorry, accidentally hit edit instead of quote.

exactly and thankfully the bread is becoming less filling and harder to come-by, the circus tents are starting to show signs of tattering and becoming soiled, I think more people are waking up to this fact, which gives me hope that maybe something positive will come out of all of this...

Good for you, glad you don't care about other Americans other than the ones that agree with you.

The same could be said to you good sir, I'm all for sharing ideas and trying to find solutions to the problems, but like I said in the other thread, I will not pander to someone blowing smoke up my ass, I did enough of that while serving in the military, which by the way I joined because I do care for my fellow countrymen. Believe it or not I was oh so much happier not caring what the fuck was going on in this country, but there comes a time when you look around at the shit storm we're all in and not wonder why other people don't see it too, then when you try to point it out, you're labeled as a conspiracy theorist, or viewed as though you "don't care for other Americans"...

Absolutely nothing ruins a good myth faster than Science.

I believe in evolution and trust scientists on global warming. Call me crazy.
—Jon Huntsman Twitter, Aug. 18, 2011

The Republican Candidates Answer.
On September 22, the Republican primary candidates will meet in Orlando, Florida for the Fox News/Google Debate - and they’ll be answering YOUR questions. Submit your question now for the chance to have it asked live during the debate!

On Climate Change

While it is evident that the human right to produce and use energy does not extend to activities that actually endanger the climate of the Earth upon which we all depend, bogus claims about climate dangers should not be used as a justification to further limit the American people's freedom. —
—Ron Paul,
Speech on House floor opposing cap-and-trade legislation, June 4, 2009

Carbon dioxide is not a harmful gas; it is a harmless gas ... And yet we're being told that we have to reduce this natural substance and reduce the American standard of living to create an arbitrary reduction in something that is naturally occurring in the Earth.
— Michele Bachmann,
House floor speech, April 22, 2009

I think all these issues have to be settled on the base of real science, not manufactured science. — When asked about the "man-made climate change myth" and "green jobs"
— Michele Bachmann,
at a campaign event in Spartanburg, S.C., Aug. 16, 2011

On Evolution

I think there is a theory, a theory of evolution, and I don't accept it. ... The creator that I know created us, each and every one of us and created the universe, and the precise time and manner. ... I just don't think we're at the point where anybody has absolute proof on either side.
—Ron Paul, Nov. 1,
Remarks made at a state Republican Party meeting in Spartanburg, S.C.

I believe in Genesis 1:1 — God created the heavens and the earth. ... If Gov. Huntsman wants to believe that he is the descendant of a monkey, then he has the right to believe that — but I disagree with him on this and the many other liberal beliefs he shares with Democrats. For Jon Huntsman to categorize anyone as 'anti-science' or 'extreme' because they believe in God is ridiculous.
—Rick Santorum, Aug. 23, 2011
The Philadelphia Inquirer.

I support intelligent design. What I support is putting all science on the table and then letting students decide. I don't think it's a good idea for government to come down on one side of scientific issue or another, when there is reasonable doubt on both sides.
— Michele Bachmann,
Republican Leadership Conference, June 17, 2011
