theodore roosevelt some cool facts
i have been reading a book about teddy recently, its actually about how he started and promoted the modern environmental movement, and founded national parks and bird sanctuaries and shit.
but i just thought id share acouple cool facts i learned. one has to do with political philosophy. and it could be a good lesson for obama, or any president. so basically roosevelt was an establishment republican type dude, but he was also progressive. and he was also a rich liberal type city dwelling guy. so he had a combination of qualities that seems somewhat out of the ordinary today. but what was cool about it (and effective) was that when he wanted to start bird sanctuaries and wildlife refugees... he had this cool strategy, that worked really well, and it seems to me obama (or a president i like more, but sure it would prob help obama too) should try it- he would go to his professor friends, and ask them "what shoudl i do to save birds" etc... get their advice, get the scientists advice and come up with plans based on the advice of the smartest people... now thats a pretty liberal and democratic idea these days it seems... not to say repubs shouldnt do it- but it just seems more in line with the dem way of doing things. but then when he went to get the refugees established, he would call on some old friend from his rough rider days or from some backwoods area- he would try to get these marlborough man type dudes and have them be the wardens and spokesmen and administrators of the parks- so even tho he got a smart plan and a good idea from scienc-y type dudes, he would put the extecution in the hands of these rough hewn guys- so it wasnt some paper pushing tie wearing beurocrat enforcing the game laws, but some tough as nails dude who u would think would be more likely to want to kill animals than protect them.... this worked so well for him that he obv was famous for all the refugees and shit that he created.... and its basically a simple idea - you get the best ideas from the smartest people- and then you put a genuine face on it, you put people in charge who dont look like those poindexter dudes that a lot of people just think are either arrogant or out of touch or wishy washy.... seems like a cool thing for obama to try in some dimension. another cool fact about tr was that he hated the name "teddy" and whenever a person would say " i was just with teddy roosevelt" or "teddy is comming to town" he would get pissed and he would say "anyone who knows me at all knows not to call me that"... but it was so popular and widely known that all sorts of people used to call him that, even purported "close friends"... and so you could know if someone was full of shit based on what they called him. ... any body think either of those things is cool ? or did i just spluge all over the interweb for nothing ![]() i wish there would be more docs and people learning about tr because he was really an amazing guy, did you know he also discovered and mapped a river in brazil after his presidency? and nearly died on the journey? google roosevelt the river of doubt. thats a nother cool tr book i read a few months ago. id like to learn some more about the late 1800s presidents too- there just doesnt seem to be much focus on those guys. |

JFK giving TR props I really respect that. Cool little post my friend. I initially wrote "JFK giving Teddy" I will never refer to him as such, thanks!
