Your ideal world...
If Utopia is possible on Earth.. what would yours be like? Could it work?
I think this is something people should have an idea about.. especially those who regularly focus on faults.. I have a vague idea but would like to expand on it.. it involves a reverence of nature at its heart.. which encompasses technology somehow.. and err.. that's basically it for now. heh M |

In my ideal world, everyone would be crafty. We'd trade our goods and services with each other in an old-fashioned way, and we'd tell all the big businesses to eat a dick because we have everything we need in our community without their influence. And we'd all hold hands and have occasional orgies.

A world without psychopaths.
A world without meat eaters. A world without central banking. A world where corporation owners have accountability A world where Santa is real. ![]() The Rev |

Well, energy is the #1 reason for war these days. Once you get a surplus, then you've got a lot fewer reasons to blow each other up.

Think of the technological advancement we have had since the dawn of the Petroleum Age (~1846, invention of kerosene) to now. In that 165 years we have gone from horse drawn carriage to space flight. When we have a commercially viable fusion reactor design, it will be another technological explosion. But like 100x bigger.
Energy is everything. Fusion will essentially give us an unlimited supply (its fuel is the most common thing in the universe). |

I imagine that one day, in places where agriculture isn't very likely to succeed (like a desert, but that's just an example) we will have giant, multi level farms inside a skyscraper type building. Fusion will make that possible.
The future after fusion will be as alien to us as a high tech lab of some sort to Homo erectus. |

I just figured there would be something more you would want..
Oh and I hate the idea of being surrounded by electronics in a concrete jungle.. although some of the possible integration's between nature and architecture is really cool. I would prefer the natural environment to be a more dominant aspect.. and the technology to be more interwoven into it.. I guess what I mean to say is I like man made stuff and its applications but dislike the quantity and pervasiveness if it.. especially tech that is so out of balance with the natural ecosystem. What have you got against meat eaters!? My ideal world will have farming systems that give the animals the respect and compassion they deserve while alive for sustaining our being when they have been sacrificed. Farming and consumption would also be much more local and community orientated.

I imagine a utopia like this...
Everywhere are deep green grassy rolling hills dotted with huge oak trees and white dome houses. people all wear long white silk robes and they don't walk, they float. There is no need to eat food and everyone looks beautiful and they live for hundereds of years. Communication would all be telepathic. Material goods, work and entertainment are unneccessary. People just dream their lives into existance. |

My ideal world would have a nice blending of nature and tech as well, meaning our knowledge/use reflects our total impact on earth.
Politicians and/or ruling bodies would have to take a version of the hippocratic oath. I'd like the worldview to emphasize science and reasoning, with compassion for life.

With the way people are today, fusion power would only enable us to consume the natural resources on this planet that much quicker.
"Energy is the currency of life. Once we have huge amounts of incredibly cheap energy, the standard of living for everybody will increase dramatically. Our social problems will make us look primitive and stupid to future generations. They will be the same species. The only difference will be the amount of energy we harness." Electricity, or 'energy' as you're defining it, is that which powers machines. Machines don't feed people. Machines don't grow food. Our social problems aren't caused by a lack of electricity. Races don't hate each other because their fridges stop working. We aren't suffering from a lack of electricity (yet). A relatively small proportion of our population is involved in the production of electricity, because we have enough electricity to power every machine we've been able to create. I'm not saying fusion power wouldn't solve anything. But it certainly wouldn't solve everything. I want to know how unlimited electricity would suddenly 'fix' everything. I want to hear it from Rev too. I want to understand the reasons behind the fuck you guys are on about
