1000:1 The Shalit Saga
Holy fucking shit, gilad schalit is comming home.
And Israel showed that 1 of its citizens is worth 1,000+ terrorists. which is, a good thing and a bad thing . good because it shows that for hamas these guys are basically like nail clippings, who cares if they go to their 77 virgins or get released , its not worth 1 for 1, unless they can get like thousands then just leave em to rot. but bad because it shows that every soldier they can kidnap will get them a high ranson... (the bush argument against appeasing terrorists) give a mouse a cookie.... still, if israel can build iron domes to keep out kassam rockets, surely it can come up with some better plans in the future to make sure individual soldiers arent placed in exposed positions and susceptible to kidnapping... next time they are thinking of sending someone on a shalit style patrol...for god sake, just send a drone or a robot or something... and also, if both sides (but mostly the palestinians) can taste the sweet fruit that comes when they make nice and deal with the other side... and israel can have a bit of the bitterness of the cruel animalistic shalit ordeal over with... maybe this can part the clouds for some kind of broader peace. hamas is saying "we hope allah willing to have more shalits until every palestinian in israeli jails is free"... well if they really want that, come to tel aviv and sign a peace treaty, and you can have every palestinian back, and have your own independant state as well.... and join in the US-Israel-Saudi-Nato alliance and start acting like a proper country.... (and when hamas rejects that idea, in favor of hiding in the shadows and trying to kidnap a 17 year old soldier to ransom him for more of your toenail clipping minions it will show them for the bloody bastards they are)..... but anyway, pretty awesome that shalit is finally comming home. and i guess if this leads to better relations, thats great too... but i seriously doubt it will, but there could be a chance. israel shows again and again that it will make crazy, lopsided deals in the interest of peace... even against a huge overwhelmingly outnumbering enemy of surrounding arabs... they withdrew from gaza unilaterally in 2005 to extend an olive branch, they traded 1000 killers with blood on their hands for one israeli (they even traded 2 high level terrorists a few years ago just for the BODIES of 2 dead israelis).... does any person on either side who sees this deal doubt that israel would make similar huge steps to fix injustices and dismantle vast blocks of settlements and agree to all sorts of other good points for the palestinians, if only they would reject the ahmadinejad-apocalpse prophecy of wiping other nations off the map and simply agree to live side by side in peace... as netanyahu said the settlements arent the problem, they are a RESULT of the problem.... and if the problem were solved, the settlement issue could quite easily and farily be resolved. prisoners can be exchanged and released...settlemen ts can be dismantled.... PEACE and the desire for it is the only thing that has been lacking....all the "reasons why" are simply excuses that both sides use to keep the status quo for whatever reasons they each have. what say you yahooka? |

I don't think Israel would have given away 450 terrorists, more like poor schmucks who got so pissed off his neighborhood was shelled every other week they threw a rock at a tank and got black-bagged.
Hope the dude's ok though, he's been wondering whether he'd live or die on camera for propaganda purposes for years now. Must have been hellish.

^ and not given any red cross access. and held by himself.
i cant even fucking imagine. the one thing that seems likely is that he was treated fairly well at least in terms of basic care, because he looked alright in the video a few years ago, and they had incentive to keep him alive and healthy (and actually this will ensure that future ransomed kidnap victims are also treated nicely because it shows how valuable a healthy and safe bargaining chip can be) even tho i think in the long run this might set a bad precedent, its just gonna be amazing to be able to turn the page on this... mark my words there will be a prime minster gilad shalit of israel someday... assuming he eventually wants it. |
