Are there occupy movements where you live?

There is a huge occupy Portland movement in Oregon. There is a big encampment that is getting very organized with food, daycare, mail service, etc.

There is also a smaller one in my city of Salem but it doesn't really have the legs. The city and the cops are really bullying them but I think they finally got a permit to camp next to the capital for a protest. There's probably a few dozen out there with tents and picket signs.

If I get time I might go over there and do some protesting.

Occupy Pittsburgh calls for BNY Mellon investigation - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

and...

Updated: 12:04 pm EDT October 17, 2011

PITTSBURGH -- Protesters of the "Occupy Pittsburgh" group remain downtown on Monday as the protest has reached the third day.

Bank of New York Mellon Corporation had given protesters permission to camp out in the company's privately owned park in downtown Pittsburgh as long as they remained peaceful and respectful. The question now might be how to define respectful.

On Sunday, the still peaceful protesters of the newly formed "Occupy Pittsburgh" group announced a specific demand: They want BNY Mellon to "pay back" money it made by, they say, overcharging public pension funds around the country.

With the BNY Mellon skyscraper in the background, about 75 protesters gathered around noon Sunday to hear plans for a picket at the bank building this Wednesday.

Occupy Pittsburgh organizers handed out 500 newly printed copies of a flyer highlighting the pension issue. In early October, New York's attorney general and the city of New York filed a lawsuit against BNY Mellon, accusing it of defrauding clients in foreign currency exchange transactions that generated nearly $2 billion over 10 years.

BNY Mellon said the allegations are "flat-out wrong" and has vowed to fight the lawsuit.

BNY Mellon spokesman Ron Gruendl said Sunday that the bank is disappointed the protesters are distributing material that contains false allegations. He noted that the bank isn't blocking protesters' access to the park.

But now, the Occupy Pittsburgh group is asking whether public pension funds that BNY Mellon administers in the western Pennsylvania region were also overcharged.

One speaker called on protesters to demand that state Attorney General Linda Kelly investigate the issue and to march at the attorney general's Pittsburgh office.

Occupy Pittsburgh spokesman Nathanial Glosser told The Associated Press that that aspect of Wednesday's protest hadn't been confirmed, just the picket of the BNY Mellon building.

About 25 tents are scattered around the park, along with a food distribution point, a medical tent and a headquarters tent powered by a small solar panel.

Carolyn Kemp, 26, said she made the snap decision to camp out after Saturday's protests, and she shared a small tent with two other people.

"I think it's been a really good spirit so far," Kemp said, adding that police left Saturday evening and hadn't returned.

Kemp said the president of the local transit workers union visited the park, and said a number of cars and buses responded to a sign that said "Honk for America."

On Saturday, as many as 2,000 people marched in Pittsburgh in support with the Occupy Wall Street movement that began in New York. In Philadelphia, about 500 protesters marched from a camp next to City Hall to the Liberty Bell for the second Saturday in a row.

They've got one here in Riverside. It's small, but the cops so far are being pretty cool about it.

Yea, here in Missoula they're camped in front of the courthouse. Maybe 40 ppl in all and some tents for the truly dedicated.

I highly doubt it will last much longer, it's getting cold quick and you do not want to camp in tents in a Montana winter.

It's definitely going to be something we tell our grandchildren about, this whole "occupy" thing. It's sweeping the nation.

Cops here haven't done anything about it, they actually have a post on their facebook page that asked people to stop calling the police regarding the courtroom tents/protestors unless they see illegal drugs or fighting or something.

But again, this is Missoula, the last time we had anything close to a riot was when the Hell's Angels came to town in '05, a bunch of people protested the massive influx of cops throughout town and the police maced a journalism student. That's the last time I remember there being any sort of political movement besides the occasional abortion protests of course.

Seven demonstrators involved in the two-week-old Minneapolis protest against corporate America were arrested Thursday for blocking traffic in front of the U.S. Bank building.

It was the first instance of multiple arrests since OccupyMN began Oct. 7 in solidarity with the Occupy Wall Street demonstration in New York City.

Chanting "Stop foreclosures now!" protesters erected tents in the intersection of 6th Street and 2nd Avenue S., causing police to reroute traffic. When seven refused to move after about an hour of sitting in the street, they were led away by police and charged with misdemeanors.

The arrests culminated a day of confrontations that began on the other side of the building, across 3rd Avenue S. from OccupyMN's encampment on the plaza outside the Hennepin County Government Center. About 100 demonstrators set up four small tents that were plastic sheeting placed over a simple wood frame on the sidewalk in front of U.S. Bank's plaza.

Then they picked up the tents and marched to the other side of the building, where they set them up in the intersection. Minneapolis police dismantled three of the tents, but the protesters then set up a small camping tent. Sgt. Gary Nelson announced that protesters who did not leave the intersection would be arrested.

Most of the protesters moved to the curb. Seven who stayed inside the tents were handcuffed and arrested. They did not resist. Four listed Minneapolis home addresses, two live in St. Louis Park and one lives in St. Paul.

Occupy Los Angeles has been going on for years, all those people living in tents on the streets, protesting the screwing they're getting from both big business and the government.

It's over in the wholesale district...

Yup here in new mexico too About 12am on Monday (10 October) UNM and NM State police arrived at the Occupy Albuquerque movement encampment and kicked out the people of Occupy Albuquerque. Call UNM's President's Office and let him know that they should be able to stay and should not have been kicked out! Pass this request on to others.

The news media is pissing me off with their shitty reporting of the occupy movements. All the reports are about people vandalizing, getting arrested, causing disturbances but never anything about the historical significance of the moment.
