Fuck social security, old people need to find another way

Old geezers are all up in arms lately because their Social Security has been under scrutiny.

I'm beginning to lose sympathy for them.

My own grandparents have been collecting a SS check for almost 35 years now at the ages 82.

35 fucking years, think about that....

And old people have the audacity to wag their fingers at society and say to us young people that we don't work hard enough.

Don't they realize that they are one big gigantic welfare money pit? Don't they feel responsible for this huge national deficite we have?

Their old asses are our second biggest expense, after national defense.

Just because they're old doesn't mean they aren't adults. They should be the ones recognizing the problem and choosing to take responsibility for finding a more sustainable way instead of voting feverishly to defend their welfare checks.

I think old people fear that we're going to force them into concentration camps or something if they can't work in society. But I think realisitically they are smart enough to band together and privatise their own retirements.

/unstructured rant

No, we can't. Why did they get it at 55? 62 has been the minimum for as long as I can remember.

you'll soon be on my ignore list too.

You seem to be getting stupider the longer you post on these forums...perhaps you should take a break.

40 more years until i'm eligible for that program. do i really think it'll still be around at this rate? hell no. but i guess i have no choice but to keep paying into it so that the baby boomers can have some secure sociality.

the next one i see i'm going to ask for a nice big thank you from them.

If anyone listens to the republican candidates debating ( and I agree with Obama..."don't listen to them until you see who gets voted off the island") ,

It's pretty clear that the only rep candidate who's done his homework is Ron Paul.

And some of his proposals have become scary.

The one idea of his I do agree with was letting the housing market bottom out...which the bailouts prevented...temporar ily.

When Social Security was first enacted, the average life span of a person was 63.6 years, so not everyone was expected to collect. Now, the average life span is 77.5 years. You can see the problem, and it's reflected in the fact that there are far fewer workers paying into the system per pensioner now than then. When the baby boom generation starts seriously collecting, that's only going to make matters worse.

While I agree that there are better areas of the budget to talk about cutting, there is still a serious problem facing us with Social Security (and even more so with Medicare).

It will likely last (2035) until most who've paid serious money into it are dead.

I'll be 60 next May, so in 2 years I'll be elgible for S.S. of $ 746.00 a month. My current rent (relatively low even for a slum) is $500.00 a month, which will likely inflate as the housing market is pumped back up.

My current problem is finding someone who wants to hire a person 60 years old. (haven't found one in 2 years because overall unemployment is so high.) I usually get "overqualified" in response, when I do find an opening. (in the field I have experience in)

Also if the govenment paid back into it what was borrowed from it, would help.

As far as the future of Social Security goes, I think contributions will need to increase for those who choose to opt into it, and for those who choose not to...good luck.

Well Merc, you could always let your grandparents move in with you and you can take care of them. Or you could just let them starve to death.

Do you realize that our generation is twice the size of yours? The SS we paid into all of our lives probably won't have an effect on you. Or adequately serve us. But you will have twice the reserves to use. The fuel and highways designed for twice the population will be like parking lots. Gas at a price when I started driving, 35 cents a gallon. Twice the job openings. No need for wars or rather police actions. Back to discovering the wonders of the world and not blowing it all to shit. No need for smog and actually drinking from the sink. Renewable resources vs for profit non renewable, serving a few, poisoning the rest. Twice the fresh water if you don't waste it. More gardens less starvin. Opportunities.

If those on the streets are heard,
and not gullible twits and spoiled brats falling in line.

Nit picking aid to rush's American citizens he see's as "refuge". While rush's hundred million bucks won't aid you at all. Those who don't use their SS will go to you so it seems the only Dick's advocating it are those wanting to sell security. When a living wage is paid I will certainly join the Libertards in Utopia. Until then the original reason for the Social Security and Medicare-caid-cal. Isn't only humanitarian, or good citizenship or even giving a shit at all. It's cheaper on the tax payer to feed the people and prevent sickness and homelessness, than to treat it. Some prefer the profits and easily step over the poor they create. Several generations of spoiled brats conceiving spoiled brats. Selected as toddlers to serve without honor. To win without regard to the means. Or to perpetuate prohibitions and police actions for profit and foreign disposable labor. If you can reduce life to a dollar bill then why live in a Free Society?

"I'm totally corrupted. I mean, really. My whole act, my whole economic success, whatever that is, is based solely on the existence of segregation, violence, despair, disease and injustice. And if by some miracle, the whole world would suddenly tranquilize, be pured, I would be standing in an unemployment line somewhere. So you see, I'm not a moralist."

Tree of Life

Mercury’s Toxic Legacy
Over 150,000 Native Americans lived in California prior to the start of the Gold Rush in 1849. By 1870 disease, forced relocations and massacres had reduced the Native population to an estimated 31,000. Miners dug up 12 billion tons of earth, and used mercury to extract gold ore. The amount of mercury required to violate federal health standards is equivalent to one gram in a small lake. Approximately 26,000,000 pounds of mercury was used in gold mining Northern California. The amount of mercury lost to the Northern California environment from the 1860’s through the early 1900’s is estimated at 11-13 million pounds.
