The Bill You and EVERYONE WHO USES THE INTERNET should know about
The first major step in Internet censorship is being attempted in the form of a US Bill called the "Protect IP Act". With this act, government would have the ability to censor websites and search engines they do not approve of under the guise of copywrite protection. It doesn't matter that this is an American Bill, the effects of it being passed would be far reaching. BE AWARE, SPREAD THE WORD.

Here is something i still dont understand...
What is the problem with using protected material, as long as you cite your sources and do not profit from it? oh yeah, greedy bastards are the problem. nevermind.

See I don't get that junk either. I would think that they'd put out a good enough product that people would want to buy it. With so much going digital shouldn't prices come WAY down?

btw this isn't the First bill of this type our government has tried to pass through in recent times. There have been Many in fact. i personally have no idea if those past bills were passed or not, i know i havent seen their effect tho so idk.
regardless, does it matter if we know about it or not? our government has made it pretty clear that this "democracy" is a complete sham, and that it matters not if a majority of its population disagrees with their actions/ideas. Case in point, marijuana legalization. The majority wants it, nothing has changed. The fact that they can even trick people into believing we live in a democracy is absurd. The fact they go against that one point is enough to clearly spell it out... oh yeah, the majority of the population is jobless lazy hippies tho... they dont matter.

i can kind of sympathize actually... movies ain't cheap to produce, they aren't spending 20million dollars to entertain you out of the goodness of their heart, they want that money back.

I get the impression this is talking about blocking access to websites that host copyrighted movies and stuff like that, stuff you'd otherwise need to pay for to have legal access to.

90% of the time, blockbuster movies make their money back, if not double it, within the first week of it screening in theaters. Those actors get paid millions and millions of dollars. Those actors then hoard all these millions to themselves. If the big movie producers still werent making a KILLING off making movies, do you think they would still do it? This is about them wanting MORE money then they are currently getting. AKA greedy bastards. no sympathy.

as for the smaller underground productions of movie and music, The argument involving downloading their material doesnt really apply here.
If you think smalltime movie and music producers are who they are trying to protect with this bill, you are mistaken. This is 100% about trying to get MORE money in the pockets of those people who already have plenty.

The Patriot Act is to terrorism (and personal freedom) as the Protect IP Act is to copyright infringement (and Internet freedom).

The thing that really bothers me about this, is that it would give more power to the entities with money.
Think of it this way... Your corporation wants to be the new E-bay. Hire some people to put up pirated movies for sale. Have your team of lawyers get a court order to shut down the site. Start your own version of E-bay and take over while the original one is tied up in litigation for years. Meanwhile, pirate bay and sites like that, have changed addresses and are still making movies and such available. Now maybe E-bay is not the best example. They are so big, they have their own team of lawyers. Just insert any name of any small internet company.
