At least we still have Mars orbiters...
pretty cool to anyone who follows such things, is that the next generation mars rover is launching on november 25th.
now thankfully, this project which began long before obama took office wasnt scrapped by el presidente along with all the other great nasa stuff he threw out the window... i dont know if its because he was buddies with these guys and not those, or what, but im glad its launching nontheless.. ...and right at the same time Failed Russian space mission shows difficulty of exploring Mars - CSMonitor.com russias mars launch fails, and they fail to get their ship on its way.... says an american "thats why its called rocket science" touche' dude touche' but, the chinese just successfully orbited 2 craft in synchronous orbit, which was by many accounts a huge leap forward for those astro-commies..... but its nice to fawn in the light of the one bit of space tech where it seems like we have a pretty solid lead- mars rovers. i mean for all intents and purposes america has already landed men on mars...not exactly, but when men land there their view and the things they see will be the same as the things the two mars rovers spirit and opportunity saw- and those had american flags on em- so we planted the flag there first, and we found evidence of water, and all the rest...so if any country really wants to leapfrog us, they are gonna have to land on an asteroid or venus or some shit.... at least we have this big lead that doesnt seem likely to be fucked up by any one horrible president (thank god because lord knows this one has been horrible with a capital H). ... so anyway, pretty cool that we are going back to mars with the most sophisticated rover yet- and also pretty heartening (but also somewhat disappointing because frankly who cares who does it as long as someone does and shares the knowledge) that russia tried to launch one to compete with us this time, and theres failed.... this should kickstart a new american space program- we still have a lead in some respects, and dammit, we need to fight to maintain it...because once the chinese start having successful mars rovers i can assure you we will never be in front again... or at least for centuries. I like the idea of space exploration, but I don't like the idea of subsidizing NASA. We're essentially taking billions and billions of taxpayer dollars and launching them into space.
Just like there is a seperation of church and state, i think there should be a seperation of state and space. |

I wouldn't mind funding NASA, if we had the money.
Our descendants are gonna need a new planet after we are done raping this one.

so curiosity is on its way! w00t!
ps, was looking at some space shit and found this. its totally awesome, its google earth of the moon and they mark all the points from the apollo missions so you can see the satelite image of the moon and then link to panoramas taken by the astronauts and see it all together Google Moon its pretty awesome ....its still amazing to me that the saturn 5 which was operational from 1967-1973 is still 10x larger than any other rocket any other country or the Us has launched since. what the fuck happened in the last 50 years that we stopped caring and reaching for new horizons. |
