A good model for... raising taxes? ??

Cuomo unveils tax rate breaks for the 99% - am New York

cuomos new plan is pretty innovative.

it seems like something that might actually work, and this is me saying this.

Tax rates on 40k-500k decrease by .25 percent...tax rates on over 2 million increase 2%....

this would actually show that democrats arent just trying to stick it to middle class people but really only to affect the 1%.

i think the number is key, 2million makes it seem like its well out of reach of any middle class person... i think this might be a way for congress to find common ground if they could work out something similar. give democrats a face saving crumb on a 2 million + rate increase and then get use that to get everything else done that needs to be done in terms of wellfare reform and entitlement reform.

The current congress will never vote to raise taxes on the wealthy. Republicans would NEVER allow that to happen. That is why nothing will get done. If you were to propose a 5% decrease in taxes that benefit the wealthy along with a 5% increase on middle-class taxes, the republicans would be all for it. They would simply say that we would be cutting taxes on "job creators" and therefore it would benefit the middle class and the economy as a whole, and it would also offset the price of the tax cut. It's the same old bullshit. It doesn't make sense. It's completely illogical.

Until their are some new, logical, common sense republicans in congress (like their used to be), taxes will never be raised on anybody but the middle class, job growth will continue to be stagnant, the deficit will continue to climb and congress will continue to be ineffective. I won't blame it solely on the republicans, but they get off on the idea of ruining this President. And if it brings the economy and the country down with him, so be it. As long as we get back to the status quo. Republicans fear change like I fear gonorrhea.

I feel so strongly about it that I accidentally posted my point twice, with slight alterations.

HAHA.

How we tax corporations is a far more urgent matter than how we tax individuals. When companies are making billions in profits, and paying no taxes (nor doing anything to improve the quality of compensation for their employees) you've got a much bigger problem than whether Buffett pays the same rate as his secretary.

at this point i'm looking at the government as an investment. i'm willing to pay my taxes, even if they're somewhat high and i'm not making a whole lot. but in today's world, if i can fall ill or get injured and don't get taken care of, what's my investment worth? more cops to harass me and defend those with power? no thanks.
