so, there has been a ton of lying about this and I keep finding new information on how bad it really is.

fission is still occurring and one of the containment vessels might fall over apparently. the thing would fart a true sbd, 1 reactor full, straight into the atmosphere, which would be lame. very lame. it's already spewing 750 msv/hr but im not sure if that is cumulative or for each one.

the ocean is taking a worse beating, radioactive seals have been found in Alaska, "a strange mortality occurrence" that's what they said in one article haha.. if you know people in japan and you have talked to them about it, what did they say, etc.

yea, I been sort of following the news leaks of how fucked up things really were/are over there.

but haven't posted on it since so many members are pronuclear energy.

however, I'm no expert, and I can't really say the problem was handled improperly, even tho the reporting of it surely has been.

they are talking about having people return to their homes, those who lived close and had to evacuate already. anyone with a sliver of common sense knows that is completely fucked.

i have heard the building over the reactor called a containment vessel. that is what i am talking about, the barrier that is eating a lot of the radiation that would normally escape directly into the atmosphere.

The containment vessel is one in itself, the building around it is basically just a warehouse to keep the weather out (or Tsunami's and earthquakes in this case...). I'm not entirely sure what you've heard about the roof, but the biggest danger as far as recent reports suggest is that due to the literal nature of a meltdown - there is still fission occuring uncontrollably down below the containment vessel.

i thought that the warehouse was part of the containment vessel because since march when the top part blew off one of the reactors it was only the top 1/5 or so of the building that was exposed. the rest of the building looked like it was built of thick walled concrete or something.

by eating radiation i just meant some of it is getting trapped by whatever material it is meeting. i know some types of radiation go through nearly everything but it's better than nothing right?

so, the fission going on.. is it happening on bare earth or is one of the containment vessels still intact? i've seen some diagrams showing two vessels per reactor. if both are busted and all the nuclear material is bubbling into the ground that would explain the ocean.

the containment vessel is mounted in a vertical manner.

it is possible that the supports have corroded to the extent that it could "fall over" within the building.

..breaking the remaining seals. (not the ringed seals)

...or possibly both seals
