Why dont we socialize banks?

Why do we allow private interests to rule in this specific area of such importance?

Not like it matters much, the govt is just as crooked as corporate banks. at least we can somewhat hold the govt accountable.

We already give the banks massive bailouts. For all intents and purposes they are pretty much socialized.

Why did we give these banks such huge bailouts and why are we just okay when we find out the CEOS took this bailout money and gave themselves massive massive bonuses with it?

Our division of what should be privatized and what should be socialized seems really arbitrary. Like the only thing that matters is who the moneys going to and whos getting rich off it.

Banks own everything. Just look outside and see if you can spot any property not owned by a bank. As a government official, there's no one with more capacity to make you rich than the banks, if you give them your backing. On the other hand, no one is going to get rich who opposes them.

What is it that Senator Dick Durbin said once...? Oh yeah. "Frankly, the banks own this place" or something along those lines.

We're talking about a country in which half the population, the vast majority of which are poor) are actively opposed to socialized health care, even though it is something many of them really, really need.

Americans are idiots. So while it should happen, it won't. Can't wait for China or whoever to knock us off our throne, maybe then we'll do some soul-searching and won't be a nation of morons.

China's riding the same train that Japan did back in the 80's. They've been inflating their currency an average of 30% a year for the last decade. The next big recession is going to be the inevitable collapse of the Chinese economy which I put some time in the next 5 years or so.

A country so dumb that when the rich 1% came on TV and said "If we socialize healthcare, then if you (meaning the rich guy) need a new heart or a lung but you're not on the top of the waiting list, sorry!" Not mentioning that they mean that they'd be upset that they couldn't buy their way to position #1. And the citizen sheep took it to mean that nobody could get anything done, ever. Not to mention that a good portion heard the word 'socialized' and thought to themselves "I knew those damn Russians/Chinese were taking over. Hell naw!"

Living in the south east it truly is amazing how many people support views that are directly against their own self interest.

I'm all or nothing when it comes to banks and health care. Either socialize it or make it 100% free market. The latter would never work (anymore) given our demographics.

What we have now and are about to have is really bad. Obamacare might actually be the death blow to our economy and that is no joke.

People think they can become millionaires. As long as they hold on to that illusion socialism is bad.

They don't think that. They just believe in what they're told to by the people around them.

You guys are really naive if you think that socialism would help us. Americans are lazy, complacent, self-entitled, and not worth the clothes they wear.

We're screwed no matter what political philosophy we embrace. We're just riding on the wave of the previous generations' (not the baby boomers) work and luck that made us so rich.

Luck plays a big role in who gets wealthy and who doesn't. We like to believe otherwise, because it makes the rich feel like they're somebody, and the poor feel like they have the power to become somebody, but take a look at anyone who's gotten rich, and you'll see all kinds of elements that came into play in their wealth-gathering that were totally outside their control. Or, if you prefer, look at the dipshits on the Real Housewives and ask yourself, "What's so special about them that they got rich and I didn't?"

If you put the government in charge of the Sahrah Desert, within 10 years, there would be a shortage of sand.

^i would rather have the government in charge of the desert than some privatized industry full of corruption.

how could the government possibly do a worse job than the banks and other industries are already doing?

Kind of like health care. Take the profit motive away. But then how would you get fucked?
