I was working with the news on as this story developed, and my God if I had any vestige of trust in the media it's sure gone now.

So I see it unfolding and when I heard it was a husband-wife tag-team attack I thought to myself "Self, this sure smells like terrorism to me."

But even after details trickled through and salient facts seeped through the bullshit the media STILL insisted on calling it a "workplace dispute."

So let me work through this narrative you guys are pushing onto me, let's do a bit of role-play.

"Hi Terry, how was work?"

"Terrible. Ruben called me a chubby four-eyed geek again."

"Oh well that's just awful! But cheer up, tomorrow's another day!"

"I have a better idea. You remember those AK-47s, pipe bombs and 1600 rounds of ammunition we were saving for a rainy day?"

"Yeah...?"

"Well get your fucking umbrella."

all right..let me play devil's advocate here for the mo. The media were getting info from police sources most likely. The identity of the assailant was probably known fairly soon after the initial event, the target of their rampage was very specific and occurred where his employers and fellow employees were having a conference, so it's not a leap of faith to speculate that it was a workplace incident. Now considering the amount of ammo and homemade bombs they discovered it might actually be a case of both. They seemed prepared for a much larger scale attack but something triggered the outrage and it became less a detached target of opportunity but one of passion.

Also, i'd like to add, firearms are generally protected by the second amendment for citizens to posses under most conditions, but obvious chocking hazards in children's candy is not

If gun culture didn't exist in the USA, the Walking Dead would be way less interesting.

And here is the cliche gun control comment,

there are more guns per capita in Canada than in the states. wooooo (spooky ghost noises, what does it all mean?!?!)

We're really talking about economies of scale when it comes to US vs. Canadian gun ownership, aren't we?
Pew estimates well over a third of US household have at least one firearm. That would be more then the entire population of Canada i'd guess

To clarify, I was ironically pointing out the collective inundation we as a nation have developed due to mass shootings.

I was not being glib or patriotic, in fact quite the opposite.

I was trying (poorly) to illustrate your point, by immediately going the conspiracy route, which usually involves covert government action. In this case using a billionaire populist demagogue as a stand in.

It probably would have been better to quote the earlier comment

Per capita is misleading as well in the sense that, (my suspicion is) there are fewer gun owners as a percentage, with more guns each, in Canada. Just guessing on that.

I see the correlation of your logic.
