Sectarian violence was going on while we were occupiers. The neighborhoods were cleansed right under our noses. The arrogant idea that we can fix anything, even shit we break, is why we're neck deep in shit throughout the entire region.

It isnt like syria is an occupied country anymore. Basically the entire civilian population is gone. It is mainly just foreign fighters + assad left. It is for the taking.

Lets hand it over to the most peaceful and rational people in the mix, the Kurds, let them establish Kurdistan, then we totally back off and let the cards fall how they may.

Ive felt this way ever since it became obvious how ficked we left the place and what it turned into.

That said i recognize that everything our government does has shitty intentions, so this is all fantasy talk basically. However i do believe, in theory, it would be a good final move by us, in an effort to mediate some of the shit we've caused and set the stage for us to get the fuck out for good and at least give the area a SLIGHT chance at recovering.

Blah blah.

Hatfields and the the McCoys, really. Life is complex and sticking with one strategy exclusively and getting involved in entangling alliances dooms one to failure. It's best not to get involved unless you're very committed to the causes at hand and fairly ensured of success.

Don't take this the wrong way but do you have literally any knowledge about the history of the Middle East?
