..this was not a necessity, of course, if the Dems (or a critical mass within the elite) had addressed the bread and butter issues in a credible way...Sanders, for instance, had an authenticity concerning the working class that the DNC as a whole lack, without compromising his social progressiveness.

Clinton was one uninspiring candidate, the platform they put forward was really, truly pathetic when it came to the economy..paid leave? really? that's all you got? a bump in the minimum wage? seriously? I'm not really opposed to those things, but they don't address shit.
Both Trump and Sanders attacked globalization and Clinton is the personification of it
Indeed, if Clinton hadn't spent the last four years cultivating her war chest and monopolizing the donor class the field may have been more wide open and a better field of candidates would have sunk Clinton. But, as wikileaks made clear, the DNC was too ready to collude with the Clinton machine, and they did because they operate in an echo-chamber where they congratulate each other and how open minded they are when it comes to public toilets
I agree with what you say about their priorities being out of whack but it does point out the divide we have in this country when it comes to those types of issues. If we didn't have such a far right sky fairy crowd being intolerant of anyone they perceive to violate their fucked up beliefs then we could concentrate on what is important to everyone.

This whole election seems to have been about how fucked up each candidate's supporters are, and not how fucked up each candidate was, him/herself. I think we saw two sides of the culture going at it, and neither let the fact that the person representing their side was a piece of crap make a difference with them, because that was the person representing their side. A vote against Trump was a vote against God, guns and good ole American values. A vote against Clinton was a vote against Equal Rights, Tolerance, and faith in progress. The candidates could have been two cardboard cutouts and the result would have been almost the same. Trump was just better at whipping up the passions of the people that supported him.

Now that the fight is over, however, we still have the piece of crap to deal with.

The problem with people is that they think binary.

Was talking to a friend about this, arguing with him about the notion that there are never just two sides to an issue. Things are always way too complicated.

But I think, behind the issues themselves, it comes down to "I want X to be my reality, and I'm afraid Y is a threat to it, and as is the case with all things ultimately, I have no idea why."

Had a long friendly talk with my grandmother today.

She voted trump and views herself as a conservative.

Thinks socialized healthcare is a great idea. Wants to fast track citizenship for immigrants. Doesnt want to deport all those hard working and nice Mexicans with their great Christian family values. Thinks the wall idea is dumb. Thinks the government should work to close the loopholes abused by the rich and corporations.

O____O

Grandma...
Youre a straight up bernie liberal...

Lol fuck.

It's cool though. Im planting all sorts of seeds. Ima have her marching through the streets calling for a liberal revolution by next election.

Be pretty cool if they nixed the electoral college. Of course they won't because it gives a boon to less populous (generally republican) states.

That's the most ironic thing about this whole election...because the quasi fascist Nationalist beat the mainstream Democrat, we probably averted WW3

Hard to say how he'll add to that conversation considering he was mental over it in 2012 and all for it last week.

By nominating Clinton, in all honesty, the Democrats(or more accurately, theDNC) deserved to lose

I can't completely disagree with that. Indeed she was not my first choice.

This is the lulz.

Face it demfags. Hillary was such a ridiculous suspension of disbelief. If they don't get their shit together and build a party that reflects the base, they're fucked. Bernie was okay but even still the rest of the party is retarded. Chuck Schumer, dona brazille, Howard dean.... thsee people are idiots. That's like mitt romney, Paul Ryan and bill kristol. So disconnected.

Yes I know Paul Ryan is back. Can't win em all

Since winning because of the electoral college, he has changed his tune on it entirely.

Also Tim Kaine. Such an incredibly weak pick. He was only ever popular in RVA/NOVA area, which was the exact strategy laid out by Schumer. "for every western PA vote we lose we'll gain two in philly suburbs".

Losers!
