California decriminalization

With the governor decriminalizing marijuana for ounce or less possession to a $100 fine and no criminal history that takes effect on 1/1/11 what is the feeling in california? I would seriously consider moving there if its going to be as lax as the netherlands or so.. whats the scoop?

There are few threads in A&P where the debate over this issue continues still. I think we're all hoping for something a little better in California after all is said and done.

Sadly it is a ploy to circumvent Prop. 19

Folks who may have been for legalizing because they see the current laws as a bit harsh and feel marijuana isn't as bad as it's cracked up to be might support Prop. 19 on principal.

Arnie comes along and says "Okay, we'll decriminalize" so those folks who may have voted for complete legalization now feel, well okay they're not going to get 'as busted' as they would have before so no need to go opening those flood gates of evil that LEO has been diligently holding tight since the thirties.

Let's see how it shakes out between Nov. 2nd and Jan. 1st.

His choice to decrim could also just be used somehow as further backing to just take the big step and stop fucking around.

As a Californian I have to say it's a move in the right direction. It matters little if prop 19 wins or looses; the tide has turned in the marijuana debate as it has in the gay-rights debate. Anyone on the other side of these issues is on the wrong side of history period.

anyone know if this will be retroactive? as in will my pot ticket from several years ago be removed from my file at the court house? that would be sweet.

and as for the op, if you want an amsterdam like environment, look into oaksterdam. its norcal bay area and you can, as far as i know, buy herb at a store or coffee shop.

Arnie is on his way out, he aint doin' the Governator any more, this makes him look sweet on his way out the door with his adoring movie going public. Keep the real fan base alive. We'll see a work around the decriminalization issue come next year when the seats are filled and the politicos don't have to campaign for a bit.

There is just too much money in prohibition to let it die just because of a silly little thing like the will of the people.

Prop 19, if it passes, will be a mixed blessing.

Certain penalties (small-scale growing and possession) will go away, while other cannabis related offenses (suppling anyone under 21) will become draconian.
