now the next question would be, what is that minimum size of a rootball.
With that combination of root pruning and LST, you could get a fuckload (a lot) of plants in an extremely small area, which is something everyone wants. surprised this hasnt been toyed with more. Id like to hear from dan still though. Things such as what is the most you've pruned a rootball?, The plants that you do this with, are they usually originally clones/have you done it from seed? etc etc

If you wanted to flower small plants normally you'd use rooted clones.

If one wanted to flower a rootbound plant in the same container, let's say a 3 gallon. How long would you say the prunned roots would take to grow back to get to point where they would be able to support the flowering stage?

^ Depends on the plant but probably around 10 days or more would give it a good chance.
Sativa plants tend to carry on vegging in flower anyway, so you could switch them sooner..

I've heard for trees (probably irrelevant for cannabis, given the size of their stalks) that the rule of thumb for root pruning is to only prune roots that are at least three trunk-diameters from the base of the plant, so you dont risk cutting out a huge portion of the root system

With trees having so much mass above ground, being exposed to winds and gales I think the integrity of the root system is fairly critical.
With mj plants the roots are very quick growing, where trees might need years to regrow major root damage.

Too small of pots
Ok, I got some plants germed and veg'd in small pots. They hold about 5 cups of soil and are said to support plants up to 4 inches. I don't have space to put them in bigger containers for like a month maybe.
If I'm understanding correctly - the remaining roots after trimming should be the lenght of the plant? Would any sort of rooting powder/gels help when pruning roots? |

Don't bother with rooting products- cut off half the roots and cut off the top part of the plant to leave it in proportion.

Overall plant size mirrors root size, to an extent. Having a small root system limits the amount of nutrients that can be absorbed, and a small pot limits the overall amount of nutrients present. Together with the constant stress of pruning and repotting, it seems very unlikely that you could use this method to grow 10' trees out of soda bottles

I'd do everything at the same time.
