I'm glad I read this - how are you all doing? I've been wanting to quit for a while now. I've been smoking for ....... hmm ..... 20 years now!! As long as I've been tokin'. Now it is time for me to guit. I want to get the hubby to quit, also. No sense in just one of us being miserable!! I'll try some of your suggestions. Looks like Saturday would be the best day for me to start this. Wish me luck!!

sometimes i can quit for a few weeks at a time if i really try, this is the longest i've made it so far, i used to smoke a pack a day but was able to drastically cut down because i quit my job, it's a lot easier not to smoke when you dont have the money to buy ciggs, but i never really quit altogether after that, maybe i will this time, probably not, but maybe.

Some other things I read were, pick a start date and tell everyone your quitting.
OK, I'm sure everyone will be behind me on this.

Yes, this is a concern for me. I like to breath. I look good in blue ya know but not to that extent!! I have cancer and diabetes on one side of the tree and heart disease on the other. I am surrounded!! I've never been able to quit for any amount of time except when in the hospital with the boys. Should have taken advantage of it but I usually found the need for a smoke soon after getting home with the little bundles of joy!! Can you imagine it?

So I thought maybe I'd find myself a little cig tin that holds 10 smokes and try to just go 10 a day. I gotta do somethin'........... .....

Oh and glad you stopped in time!!

The question is, if you quit, and then you start again, did you really ever quit?

I get this opinion when i hear people discuss periods in their life where they quit for a period of years and then started again. Then i look at my own situation and think, 'if i were to start smoking again, would it really matter at all that i havnt for the past year'...

This is my main motivation to keep up with my quiting...

Although this idea may not go down well at yahooka, ive stopped smoking the green for a month, day 13 at the moment, but had i not stopped smoking i would be in BIG hsit right about now, as yesterday i went out with a friend who i usually smoke with, we were sat in the park when we hear a huge screech and a bang, so we got up, hopped the trian line and got to the road, there in the middle of the road was a hubcap and some friggin huge skid marks, we followed them and they went through a bush, and 10 feet below in a field was a car on its side with two people stood by it (who we both knew) ringing the police, minites later the cops turned up, but MY GOD if i had any weed on me i would have been absoloutely done for. shit, I find myself extremely lucky. 18 days left OMG!!!

Another thing about addiction, just to get a little existentialist on everyone.

Me and a friend were talking about habits, and how your habit doesnt exist until you choose to pick up your next cigarette for example. You can claim youre addicted all you want, but the actual addiction doesnt exist until you smoke another cigarette.

Burn down your phantoms of supposition...

adding onto that addiction is really pathetic, because you can see a fully grown man becone DEPENDANT in a substance, it makes them lose thier independance, plus its basically killing them at the same time

When I was a teenager I smoked all the time. I never felt addicted to them and knew I could quit anytime, and I did. I didn't smoke for almost two years until I moved in with a room-mate that smokes constantly! I've been smoking for a little over 3 months now and finding it HARD to stop.

The problem is I don't ever have to buy them because they're always around and my 'mate doesn't mind if I smoke off him. In fact, he leaves me a pack of Newports sitting on the table all the time. Every night before going to bed I say, "I'm not smoking tomorrow, or ever. I done!".

I just smoked one 30min ago. My first one for the day.

I hate the way they smell, taste, make me feel.. I'm trying REALLY hard to stop.

^She's probably sucking down a marlboro right now. This one is the hardest no doubt. I miss cigarettes especially this time of year. If I can't stop chewing soon I will just go back to cigs. My mouth is getting beat up and my gums are receding, not to mention bloody chapped lips.

nope im still tobacco free!

there is no point in trying to keep your mind off it. the right way is to keep your mind on the fact that you decided not to smoke cigs anymore, and concentrate on not smokin them. when u make the decision and follow thru with it then u have success in quitting. thats all.

Uhh...you need to take a break from dipping, if it's done that already it's not going to get better less you give that a chance to heal.
