yeah stulic, i was a little bit hammered so i came off a lot more dickish than i really meant to

what i meant to get across with that is just that everyones just going to vote for their own country, cuz everyone thinks whatever sport they play in their country is the best, so their is really no reason to argue with eachother about it (even tho thats really what i was doing there)

and dont bash me for voting for the us it wasn't just cuz i live here and am some flag waving hick, cuz im not, sports just happen to be my thing, american sports at that, im just voting honestly

Yes but when looking at this:

List of countries by population - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

you will realize there is very little correlation between population and medals won.

Because some countries produce more top athletes in various different disciplines and some others don't.

Everybody with half a brain will realize it's all about the ratio between top sportsmen and the country's population.

One link: Australian Institute of Sport - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia pwns all.

Quote:
Set up in 1981 after the 1976 Montreal Olympic Games in which Australia failed to win a gold medal (regarded as a severe national embarrassment in Australia), the Institute's well-funded programs (and more generally the generous funding for elite sporting programs) are regarded as a major reason for Australia's disproportionate success in international sporting competition

Not if you value quantity over quality.
Whatever.
How about this;
Who is your favourite sportsperson from a country other than your own?
I'll throw Martina Hingis in. She is a very good sport, but highly competetive, she plays the angles, old skool, and is very nice on the eye.

Good question.

The first person to come to my mind is Ricky Hatton, a fighter from Manchester, UK. I see him on HBO Boxing After Dark a lot. Hes a pretty cool dude and a awesome fighter.

Michael Schumacher and Goran Ivanisevic, both great in their sports but also better than average in football, basketball and volleyball.
