I've got big plans for Jim.

The only thing I really dislike is how the paint is on the gooseneck. I can replace everything else, hopefully I can get most of it off with some paint thinner and then re-grease/paint everything.

cool bike man, single speeds are the shiiiit - its nice when you dont have to think about shifting and you dont have all that extra shit in the way...theyre not even bad going up hills, with practice ive found most hills are extremely doable, and a great workout -- i got mine off of craigslist too

yeah I remember that. heh, craiglist is awesome. specially in boulder, it's not even bad with hills. when I was in 8th grade I was able to take my single speed across town to my girlfriends while grounded and tell my parents I was at a best friends house half as far away and still got home just as fast. I love hills, the reward downhill is just as good as the benefit from the exercise you get.

Some days when I take my 'real' bike into the mountains for exercise the ride down seams longer than the ride up. I just go into a trance and make my legs figure it out, but concentrating while flying down the mountains makes it go slower. It sounds weird, but awesome! That's why I went around my school tonight, there's a huge hill I got to go down after going all the way up.

fuck, so I'm going to get some of these track wheels off craigslist tomorrow. I don't know if I want to put them on my allez or the ss. hmm...

pedals are hideous. replace them immediately.

not a big fan of how the brake lines were done but i guess it works.

how can you ride with the seat tilted back like that? your prostate must hate you.

The pedals look fine to me compared to the zebra striped rims. Fuck yo brake lines, I love em'. I just got this bike yesterday man, chill.

I use the seat more for alignment than actually sitting on.

If you really want something to criticize, criticize my real bike.

I don't really know if I want fixed or not, I've considered though.

im still rocking the freewheel...i have a flipflop hub so depending on which side of the wheel the chain is connected too, it can be either fixed or a freewheel.

im kind of torn...right now im liking the ability to coast down hills and shiz, but i think if i started riding it fixed i may keep it that way, but im not sure what im going to do for the time being.

definitely give it a try as a fixed gear, they are hella fun to ride

heres some info from the late sheldon brown:

Singlespeed vs Fixed Gear

The one-speed revolution actually involves two different styles of bikes, singlespeeds and fixed gears. These are not the same thing, althogh they have much in common.

A fixed gear bike differs in that it does not permit coasting; when the bike is rolling, the pedals will turn, just as with a child's tricycle. To enjoy the one-speed experience to the max, a fixed gear is the best choice if you ride mostly on pavement. A fixed gear gives a degree of control and one-ness with the bike that is not equalled by a freewheeling bike.

This site also contains several articles dealing with Fixed Gear Bikes.

Fixed gear is not ideal for all circumstances, however. A fixed gear is not well suited for seriously hilly terrain, and, more importantly, is not good for technical mountain biking. A mountain biker in difficult terrain must be able to control when each pedal is down, to avoid striking a pedal on rocks, logs or other obstructions. Similarly, jumping over obstacles is much more difficult on a fixed gear. If your single gear is low enough for off-road climbing, it will be too low to spin on the descents.

You don't have to choose once and for all between fixed and freewheel, because the same bike can be both, if you use a reversable "flip-flop" hub.

Many cyclists interested in simplifying consider going to a singlespeed freewheel as a way to "test the waters" with the idea that if they turn out to like that, they might later convert to fixed gear.

This is generally the wrong way to approach it, in my opinion.

I STRONGLY recommend starting out with fixed gear. If it turns out to be a problem, you can easily convert to freewheel later if you want to...but my bet is you won't want to if you give fixed gear a good try (typically takes a couple of weeks of regular riding to get past the strangeness, but then it's quite addictive!)

Most folks who set up their bikes with a fixed/free flip flop wind up using the fixed gear side pretty much all of the time. The freewheel option is mainly useful for when you have taken a longer than usual ride, and need to get home even though you're all tuckered out.

yeah I read that yesterday trying to figure out the flip flop hubs and what not.

I still don't know, cause I mean I found some nice track wheels on craigslist that are fixed only, but I kinda want a flip-flop hub so I'm still waiting for the right set of wheels to come by.

I just don't understand how fixed could possibly have any more benefits other than feels closer to your bike and in more control. I mean IMO, coasting is worth sacrificing fixed gear for being just having the ability to coast at all. Besides, we've got a lot of big hills around here, so safe(fast) coasting is a necessity.

i got in a pretty bad accident the other night - i was riding home with the girlie, at the time she was in front and i guess she didnt realize how close i was but she braked and turned right so i crashed and landed straight on my grill.

my teefs are all chipped and fucked up and i have minor scrapes and bruises and shit, my right side (arm and leg) are hella sore, but at least i didnt break anything. - it basically looks like i got my ass kicked.

ill probably get a helmet pretty soon but i cant wait to start riding again.

aw yeaaa

these wheels on the very rare occasion have been known to "explode." It's carbon fiber as you can see, which will literally blow out all the spokes if you hit a big bump hard. They aren't even supposed to be ridden on road, they are meant for tracks more or less. I have to get a single speed conversion too. :/
