fishing!
who here likes fishing?
so the other day i went with my buddy jon fishing near merced falls. it was a great day outside. we got out there around 1 or so and jon led me to a spot i had never been to before, down the river. we had to hop a fence to get access to the area, looks like fishermen have been doing it for years, the barbed wire fence was all torn up and it was easy to get over. we made two trips to pack all our gear, way more comfort than was necessary with lawn chairs and a cooler with some beer. jon and i made our way down to the river and we see the perfect spot, in the middle of the river are some rocks that form a little island. we had to exercise our balance and leaping skills to get out there but it was worth it. we got a little high and started fishing and almost right away the fishing was excellent. jon had a ridiculous set up, he was using spinners on a reel with line way to heavy for that. he was barely able to cast even 10 feet but that was apparently good because all the fish were right next to him. he caught brook after brook. i tried his set up and caught one my first cast. i had never caught a brook before. i also had a rod set up with power eggs and a inflated worm and i was getting very consistent fish on this set up, in fact the bell would go off so much that i had trouble setting up a lure or drinking for that matter. there were a few other guys there as well but we had the spot we were outfishing them. another great thing about that spot was there was a little pool in the middle so we could release our fish and then pick and choose which ones we wanted to keep later. all the sudden this fat aggie looking dude comes down on an atv to the other side of the river from which we came and he starts flipping out hardcore on all of us for being there. i could barely hear what he was saying but i could tell he was pissed. it seemed like he had anger managment problems. he was cussing at all of us and im pretty sure he flipped us off as well. all we were doin was fishing. i dont know if it was his property or someone he knew owned the property but he made it clear we werent supposed to be there so jon and i bolted, managing to carry all of our stuff back in one trip. i was kind of shocked with just how bad this guy flipped out, i can understand him being kind of angry if it was indeed his property(looked to us like it was PG&E's), but to go batshit insane over it seems unreasonable. we would have asked for permission if we know if there was anyone to ask. besides how do you own a river? im not saying they shouldnt be allowed to own the property around it but i dont think it should at all be allowed to prevent people from accessing the river. anyway we layed low and then went back for our fish. overall it was a great day of fishing even that deuche couldnt ruin it. heres the ones we kept, cooked, and served our friends with french fries

I wouldn't have flipped, but I wouldn't want people fishing on my property either.

I work at a flyfishing shop, have been for 5 years now... we work on the missouri river... which has amazing blue ribbon rainbow/brown trout fishing ive actually never seen such healthy brookies before,, they look fat and happy little footballs thats for sure. the average fish below holter damn is 16-22 inches.. which is insane,, its like 1600 fish per acre or some shit too which is amazing the only difference is im a fly fisher, not dat bate crap... lol only jokes, i do both quite frequenntly depending on situations. happy fishing, and you always get people like that man, come to montana where the stream regs are free fishing below high water mark... thats real fishing country

pg& e have an easement to use the property overhead or underground ,but do not own it.
only the pipes/wires that run thru it. Easement - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia An easement is the right or freedom to do something or the right to prevent someone else from doing something over the real property of another. At common law, an easement came to be treated as a property right in itself and is still treated as a kind of property by most jurisdictions. In some jurisdictions, another term for easement is equitable servitude, although easements do not have their origin in equity. The right is often described as the right to use the land of another for a special purpose. Unlike a lease, an easement does not give the holder a right of "possession" of the property, only a right of use. It is distinguished from a licence that only gives one a personal privilege to do something even more limited on the land of another. An example of a license is the right to park a car in a parking lot with the consent of the parking lot owner. Licences in general can be terminated by the property owner much more easily than easements. This is similar to but not the same as a wayleave. Easements also differ from licences in that most easements ("easements appurtenant") are attached to and benefit another parcel of land, not a specific person. This means that a property that enjoys an easement over another will continue to enjoy the easement even if the property gets transferred to a different owner. Other easements ("easements in gross") benefit a specific person.

I have a long mental list of things to do before I die. One on the top has always been fly fishing

i like fishing but i dont like the fact that many fish species and natural animal populations are on the verge of collapse which is why i dont do it more and if i do fish i release what i catch. but i go saltwater surfcast fishing which is very different from trout fishing. mainly catch stripers (preferably) and bluefish (not that good too eat but give a huge fight and very common)
what is the legal catch limit for those trout? you seem to have slaughtered many of them...

tedkennedy-the limit is five per person and we kept 3 each. we dont usually eat a bunch of them cause we are lazy, but these are not native fish they are stocked by the department of fish and game.

I love fishing. never been fly fishing though, but I intend to try it some time.
the best fishing I did was in Rocky Island Lake, Ontario..a chain of about a thousand lakes all surrounded by mountains and evergreen trees. it was actually logging territory. it was pretty remote, I was told it was an 8 hour helicopter ride to the nearest hospital. anyhow there were all kinds of wildlife I'd never seen, a bear and a moose being the ones I particularly remember. we paddled out in canoes and fished from about 6 AM till 6 PM everyday for a week. the water was so clean you could dip your cup in it and drink it, best water i've ever tasted. as far as I know there were only 3 kinds of fish..walleye, northern pike, and whitefish. we gutted and ate every one we caught and it was, of course, the best tasting fish I'd ever had. I also would like to go fishing in Montana, as others have mentioned. But hell I'd go fishing anywhere

totally nun, even spawning trout i wont catch because trout isnt all that great anyway, the bigger being the nastiest. smaller trout are good if your camping or something, but i wouldnt really go out to catch some if i could make something at home, or go and buy some at the store. but to each his own, I would DEFINETLY not kill spawning salmon, and surely not trout, but catching them and releasing totally. |

I didn't stare at the photo deeply, i just did the standard 4, head, tail, fins, jaw.. Noticed a massive difference between the hen rainbow and the brooks. If you catch a salmon here right now it will look nigh identical to that, as being the end of January, is right in the middle of their spawning run, and they'll have the hunched backs, which is a pretty unusual occurrence in trout, I don't have experience with Brook, but Cannibal Brown's (google em) tend to develop them over throughout their life, anyhow i digress, salmon and trout are literally just brothers from another mother, plus being accused of catching salmon is hardly an insult to 99% of Anglers, and they're all sweet looking fish. edit: We have this on some lame tea towel here, tell me they're not similar to spawning chinooks? ![]()
