the runners thread
any runners on yahooka?
whats your weekly mileage? run any races recently or have any races planned? I did my first 5k on halloween in 27:32, pretty slow, but I think I could easily beat it now. I'm focusing on increasing my weekly mileage up to 20 miles a week, right now I'm running between 10-12 miles a week |

no better exercise than running. when i was in the army we would run five miles every morning except weekends. my best 2 miles was 11:34...talk about feeling euphoric. i smoke too much now to run..plus i dont have the desire.

I sprained my ankle in early July, took a break to let that heal and haven't gotten back into it. As soon as fall semester is over I'm going to start running again.
Do type of running do you guys do?

i've heard that only 2% of runners are actually supposed to be pushing themselves cause most peoples bodies aren't meant for it..
I bike a lot in the warmer months, but I run when I feel like it in the winter so I don't lose too much muscle. I should probably be running everyday though. maybe I'll start tonight.

nice pic jag, i think i remember seeing that in the balls thread. I ran 4 miles yesterday on the dreadmill.
I've got a 10k in may and a 13.1 in september I'm looking at. I'll need some time to build up to a half! I suck at running Last edited by ionlylooklazy; 12-12-2009 at 02:41 PM. |

Bless Up.
Yes I, I love running. I'm not real fast or accomplished, but I just love it. I've never run an organized race or event. I mostly run trails and sometimes dirt/gravel roads or logging roads. I live in the middle of nowhere, so I can hit the trail right out my door. My current goal is simply to run for 30 min everyday, kind of a New Year's Resolution. Running in snow (as I am right now) I use time rather than milage to quantify. At my fastest I have run an 8-mile hour. The longest run I have ever done was 24 miles this past September, on the Easy Pass trail in the North Cascades. My Big Goal for this year is to run each of the race distances up to marathon, although not necessarily an organized race; 5K, 10K, 1/2 mar, & marathon. My pie-in-the-sky goal is to run the Wonderland Trail (around Mt. Ranier) in 5 or 4 days. I always bless up with some herbs before a run. I sometimes take my MP3 player. I am learning to use Chi-Running techniques, but a lot of the time I just bliss out and pound away. Really, I run kinga like a dog, grinning, with my tongue hanging out, like I'm having the most fun I've ever had. That's my technique. |

I am an amatuer boxer.. So i run alot i was doing 3 miles one day then six the next every day..
but i over did it... should have listened to my coaches... i got whats called illiotibial band syndrom... this shit is painful! it is when the IT band that runs along the outside of your leg rubs over the bone on your knee joint putting many small "micro tears" in the IT band... it doesnt seem to be getting any better even though ive stopped running and switched to swimming and eliptical which by theway is no wear near as effective on your lungs as running. I have my first physical therapist appointment in exactly one hour! wish me luck.

IonlyLookLazy,
Just sharing stats. I'm not in 8-mile hour shape right now, but I've had a few good runs recently. I cross-country ski during the winter as well. I also Snowboard and train martial arts (submission grappling and mixed martial arts). On my big trail run last summer I only averaged 4 miles per hour, which is only a little faster than a brisk hiking speed, but that was fairly technical singletrack. But I love doing higher milage when I can. After the first three or four miles I get into a really free meditation. I write a lot of songs while running. If anyone wants to check out some of my music you can get it free here: http://www.yahooka.com/forum/51861980-post839.html So far I've kept up on my 30mins a day since 01-01-10. Sonnie, Yeah, that was an ambitious running schedule you were keeping. Once you heal up, you may want to try adjusting your technique. I use a lot of the elements of Chi Running, which is a mid-foot strike rather than a heal strike. It's good cross-training for boxing because it keeps your weight more on the balls of your feet, where you want it for your footwork in the ring, too. Time to smoke up and run! Bless.

jah thanks for the advice! i like to smoke after.. as sort of a reward and i find the smoke affects how hard i can push my self.... dont tell my people tho.
I just went to the boulder running co today and purchased a nice pair of asic running shoes.. it was interesting watching the video they took on the treadmill.. I have some "pronation" in my left foot which is part of the it band problems ive been having..

Heading out for 4 miles. It's been warm here and the roads are not only plowed and melted off, but actually thawed, so it's really nice running. Soft damp gravel roadbed and in the upper 30's is pretty nice running conditions for 3500 feet in the mountains of central Washington. I in-joyed a few vegan chocolate-covered ganja peanutbutter balls earlier, so I'm nice and Irie and ready to run, yet haven't smoked in the last couple of days, which feels good. (I smoke daily, but not very heavy, and usually through water.) For distance I definately find herb helpful. It can greatly accelerate the onset of the runner's high, for I. But I have done big runs without herb and done just as well, but with perhaps a few more mental challenges.
Blessed.

I broke my PR in the 5k today, went from a 27:32 to a 26:07 during a test I did today.
I can do better yet! The test I did was 10 minutes warmup, then 30 minutes all out. I did 3.59 miles in the 30 minutes, the first 3.1 in 26:07 This test was to determine my HR to establish training zones. My avg HR over the last 20 minutes was 172BPM which is considered my 'lactate threshold', the point where my body starts producing lactate faster than it can get rid of it. 1 - Recovery 114 - 146 2 - Extensive Endurance 147 - 156 3 - Intensive Endurance 157 - 164 4 - Sub-Threshold 165 - 171 5a - SuperThreshold 172 - 175 5b - Anaerobic Endurance 177 - 181 5c - Power 182 - 190 |
