u guys have encoiuraged me to look up my login credentials at the forum..

member since 2006, bitches. I'm gangster as hell !!! lol

holy christ, imagine if I actually had been eating right and lifting for the past 6 and a half years. As it is now, I'm a ways off from even being as strong as I was 4-5 years ago ..

anybody have much experience with taking huge amounts of time off? I'm talking a 4-5 year break I took and im just getting back now. good does this whole muscle memory thing work? i mean, muscle memory isn't bullshit, right? I'm proud to say that I was squatting and deadlifting 275 at my peak and benching my weight (155ish). Yeah I know that isn't shit, but still I'm proud of that How long can i increase my squats by 10 lbs every session (I have so far)? any other advice??

BTW I've gained 30 lbs in the past 80 days, as I shared in the random thread. Of course, probably only a few lbs was muscle (I gave up the weights for the needle. ) I was 139 lbs only 80 days ago and now I'm 170 and feeling great, albeit I can't really see my dick without peaking over my stomach anymore

Thats a very long time man.. I wouldn't expect muscle memory to play any role in your current lifting. You are a step ahead of a step ahead of most newbs though as you might know what you are doing.

As far as adding weight to the bar every session, who knows.. You'll be making pretty good newb gains but 10lbs is quite a bit.

My advice would be get on a legit program, or at least know how to program a workout schedule based on progressive overload using percentages of your 1rm and everything.

Personally I'm in love with Jim Wendlers 5/3/1 and would recommend it to anyone and everyone, but there are quite a few other very good strength programs to help get you started.

I recommend lifting for strength when you first start out to build a big strong base and not waste time curling in the squat rack. Compound lifts, lots of food, solid cardio and good rest.

5/3/1 is a very basic program but can get a bit confusing on knowing a few things about it. If you look into it, and get interested, go a few pages back and read what I've said about the way I'm running it, or ask some questions.

I was laying in bed this morning and thinking about my weight gain/loss through out the years.

When I left for basic training ('05) I was like... 155/150. When I had my last weigh in at basic (probably like 8 weeks in) I was 185. All natty. I just remember eating like a pig every time we sat down.
I can't remember if it was 5/6/7 days a week we did PT (physical training), but we never used weights and it was only for 1 hour at the most every morning. I guess that's not including the walking around in a vest+gear for 9+ weeks and the random ass "eat payment" drills.
My buddies were always like "I don't believe this". I remember the last run we did my knees were on fire. Wasn't used to running with all that weight.

On another note.. probably going to pick up some of these IF I could ever find them.

So muscle memory is bullshit?

I was on my grind HARD for two solid years before slowly tapering off (falling off). Was doing heavy compound lifts... I did rippetoe starting strength for a long time. Sadly I'm back doing rippetoe again but I'm adding random supplemental lifts here n there (barbell shrugs, curl, pull ups)

I can't believe all that work I did for those years is gone. I really thought muscle memory was real and id have good fast easy gains again until I got that strength back? I mean I didn't expect to jump back into dead lifting 275 again, but damn!

It's real. You don't gain muscle super fast from doing next to nothing, but it will develop quicker than if you were starting from scratch.

Muscle memory is legit... but 4-5 years is a long time. I know I took 18 months off, and I progressed two fold as fast from when I started 4 years ago it took me a 5 weeks to go from benching 135 to 155, last month I started out with 135 and within 3 weeks I was at 155, and now, two more months later I am at 175. Yes there are a lot of other variables, but I do think my workout schedule is pretty similar I do eat a lot healthier now, and I do not really drink, or smoke. Running I noticed the biggest difference. 3 years ago it took me 2 months to be able to run 5 miles straight. after my 18 month break, I was able to run 5 miles in 2 weeks, and now am up to 7 miles. where I was when I took my "leave". I think my diet has way more to do with my running, then muscle memory. The only problem is I can't seem to drop these last few pounds!

^i havent ran since the fall and cranked out 3 miles on concrete up and down hill without a problem, last week.

I attribute that to a lot of rough leg days over the winter and spring.

^ I actually stopped any heavy leg work. One I think my thighs tighten up quicker, and two I don't need any extra stress on my knees.

if you don't squat, you might as well not even call yourself a real man...

lol just kidding. thanks everybody. I was able to add 10 lbs to my squat for like the 5th workout session in a row. I'm doing 3 days a week and squatting every day. I started back at squatting like 135 (TBH i wasn't going full balls out) like a month ago, and today I squatted 195! (doing 3x5 here) so yeah, in hindsight you guys are right muscle memory is def. legit, because my gains are really nice... also, I remember before I touched a weight and I was 22 (im 28 now), it took like a full year before my flabby ass had any definition in my chest, something I have already gained back a good amount.

hey guise add me to your friends on BB.com, I need an excuse to get back on those forums for motivation purposes. my sn is outofshape111 represent represent

^^^ Good luck bro. Long day, with beer and a party at the end!

So I ditched my other shoes and bid on these guys instead

Hopefully they will be my new gym kicks by tomorrow night.

Found these....

Nike Lunar Fly Knit HTM... or something along those lines... too bad there is only like 100 made in the world (supposedly). So.. I won't be buying them
