Is it possible to loosen a gear box?

My 2010 Elantra is way looser than my 1994 Geo Prizm and it always look as if im drunk, cosntantly weaving within the lane. really annoying.

I need that shit tightened asap, wonder how much it would cost if it can be done. Idk how anyone can drive like the way it is.

edit: title should say tightened

The gear box effects the shifting, and if its loose, the gears are gonna slip and grind. You might feel a pull, like something hit your car, when the gears do catch, and it can definitely throw your steering off. But it does sound like your referring to the steering column, not the gear box. Go to the local library and ask for help finding a Chilton's manual for your car. You could basically rebuild the damn thing with the info in Chilton's

A loose transmission mount could cause the car to wobble, but weaving within the lane? Sounds like you need your wheels balanced/aligned, even checking the wheelnuts aren't loose wouldn't hurt. Hit any kerbs recently?

It's a 2010..?

Is it power or manual steering?

Like Nun said, a 'kerby' can hurt. I had one last year that completely fucked my alignment. Within a couple of hundred miles the tires were terribly worn.

been tryna get you GT on and hit a curb huh, well yeha It sounds steering related, like others said you might just need an alignment, you'll know if you need one. If you can drive and let go of the wheel and its still going straight then voila

Yea my geo was great. But the shit was unsafe.

Yea I guess I meant to say the steering column. Is it possible to adjust it to my liking? I only have 2000 miles on it.

if the car is pulling hard to one side or the other you most likely need an alignment. if they go to do the alignment and find that something is broken you'll have to get some repairs, most likely with the control arm or something else related to steering.

to me though, it sounds like something the dealer should take care of if you make a big enough stink, that is if you havent done something crazy to damage the car.

if it doesnt drive straight, theres something wrong.

you'll find out when you go through a few sets of tires in a about thousand miles
