UFC Threadiness
Brock Lesner has a fight coming up in a bit against some other massive guy. A few workmates were checking the other guys moves on youtube. Knees and kicks look impressive.
BJ Penn retires. There's always a bit of drama in this interesting sport. |

I started an MMA thread a while back, but it never caught on. Now with the UFC being on Fox, hopefully more people will start to see it as a legit sport with real athletes opposed to the 'human cockfighting' nonsense that alot of people see it is. Best sport in the world

no spoilers, I haven't downloaded 140 yet.
I've seen every one since ufc 1. vale tudo is my preference, then pride, then ufc. major upgrade in interest since the old PKA days or "Superfoot" Wallace and Jean-Yves Thériault . moving forward.

JON JONES vs LYOTO MACHIDA Fight Video, Mir vs Minotauro Nogueira 2, Tito Ortiz vs Nogueira, UFC 140
For videos of events the day after, pretty reliable. UFC 140 did not leave me a happy camper... Overeem will smash Brock.

![]() He was high as fuck during this fight against Gomi and it was one of the top fights in MMA history IMO. I hate this bullshit. However, I am more disappointed in Condit than Diaz... point fighting? Really? I never in a million years thought that, given these guys' fighting history, the fight would play out the way it did. Fuck you Greg Jackson.

So Jon Jones and Rashad Evans get to throw down April 21st barring sudden injury or something. That's gonna be big fun to watch. Cowboy Cerrone goes up against Yves Edwards in May live on FX. I always like watching Cerrone fight. Dude is a no holds barred animal in the cage.

Not UFC, but fuck, this was one of the first highlights of MMA I ever saw.
Pride > UFC. That's right.

There was a UFC fight on at the bar the other night when my Wife and I were at a brewery....
I'm not telling people what to do with their bodies or their time... But shit.... I was disturbed.

I wish I could find the thread I made on MMA I made back on 02-03 (seems to have been recently deleted)... basically it outlined my discovery of the sport and how I got into it.
I was searching for "Boxing knockouts" on Kazaa and found an old UFC knockout highlight. I was pretty taken aback by the brutality at first, but as time went on I began to understand the more intricate and subtle side of fighting. Then again: This being the first fight I ever saw live (illegal satellite) surely played more to the brutal aspect of MMA which I found so appealing. Nevertheless, there was this aforementioned subtlety which really drew me in that piqued my interest for many years to come. Including a period of time which other fans said there was "No way" that MMA would ever becomes mainstream. The Ultimate Fighter piggy-backing on the reality-TV craze (as well as the Bonnar/Griffin fight) sure put an end to that. That said, with the expansion of the UFC and the lack of competition in the form of organizations, rules, and the over-saturation of events themselves, the sport is on the decline... Fights like Condit/Diaz are prime examples of fighters fighting to win on points, in an attempt to 'win' and ensure their place within the top MMA organization today amidst the org's hastiness to dump losing fighters (as they have the leverage in MMA to do so). I try not to be bias, but at the same time cannot dismiss my total affection for the likes of Pride in its hayday. It not only gave the sport the mystic and grand atmosphere it deserved, its rules and and roster provided many of the greatest fights in MMA history. The silence of the crowd, and the deft 'pitter-patter' of the fighters in the ring are among the few beautiful details of MMA that have long since been lost.
