Push ups

Since my weight loss, I feel like I want to have better all-around body strength/endurance (the bicycle has made my legs into sinuous pillars of granite) I figured I'd start doing pushups.

I found out I can only do 7.

15 years ago, I could do 75, so it's been a downhill trip. I can already feel the pre-soreness from my septa-press. This is pretty sad. My plan is to do them every day, more or less, depending on soreness, etc. to get my strength up.

After that, I'm gonna need a pull-up bar.

Right on. Have you considered getting some dumbbells and doing the basic lifts? Squats, overheads, shrugs...? Crunches too?

bruh, see what you gotta do is get a couple of gallon jugs, and then fill them with cougar urine. Trust me cougar urine is the only thing viscous enough to give you the weight you need. Next, string those bitches together. Then you do some squats while holding a bottle in each hand. After 3 sets of 12 you should be pretty sore but don't give up bruh. So bruh then you take a drink from each bottle. Trust me bruh, it is the only thing that will give you the vigor to continue on...So next grab a jar of almond butter and rub the butter all over your inner thighs and then throw the bottles over your shoulders and go on a 1.3k run...When you are done with that take a finger and wipe away the butter from your inner thighs and put it in the bottle, then take a sip. You will then be rock hard. Go please the wife for the next 13 hours and 12 minutes. Then take a rest, you animal.

I started the 100 push-ups challenge as a way to motivate myself and keep up on the pushing up.

Welcome to the one hundred push ups training program

On my initial test, I was up to 15 pushups, so I've improved quite a bit over just 7. I'm half way through Week 1, and I figure I will just repeat each week that I can't fully do, until I can, then move on to the next week. I don't really care about whether I can do 100 or not, but I enjoy the new challenge.

Will keep you posted.

Looks like a good program. You should roll over and do abs the other 3 days.

I'm not that worried about abs. The other exercises I do get them indirectly, and I'm not looking for a 6-pack, just avoiding a keg. LOL

That push up program might make you feel otherwise. You'll want your abs to match. Soon you'll look like Bruce Lee.

That's totally fine, and your right, but in my opinion, core strength is one of the most important, for overall health/functionality. Its involved in nearly every movement, and supports a vulnerable part of the body, structurally.

And core strength and a 6 pack are two different things.

Just my 2 cents.

Have you tried resistance bands to build your strength? They have been instrumental in building my biceps, shoulders, and chest strength! Not to mention every other muscle.

Personally I like everything related to free weights. If there were no clanging of plates it just wouldn't be the same.

Yea but it's very hard work, and can be rough on your body.. especially any plyometrics without a strong base.
You should prob just listen to what Geeno or Mayne say tho.. or any other of the fitness buffs

I have P90x. I've never followed the whole program, but if you did Im sure it would be intense. The videos certainly are. Its intended for a fit person to get crazy fit.

I finished my first week of the program, but will repeat Week 1 for the second week. I did 15 yesterday at a stretch, and I know I could do more if I were starting off rested. It's nice to get some of that strength back.

There's another max test at the end of Week 2, so, we'll see how many I can do then. It'll probably be more than two weeks from now, tho.

I was put off them after I saw a video of a guy who snapped himself in the eye with one.

Did an impromptu max attempt. I can now claim 19 push-ups as my max. Still working the program. I am finally through week one. Will be starting week two Saturday.
