Any experience with Kias?

My wife and I are looking at buying a Kia Soul, used, and I was wondering if any of y'all had any experience with them. Most of the available cars are pushing 100K miles, so I need to know what their Post-100K life expectancy generally is.

Thx.

I drove a Kia Rio around 2007/8 for a couple of weeks as a rental. It was, without a doubt, the worst driving experience of my life and the worst car I have ever driven, and i've driven some bad cars.
Having said that the Soul is a much better automobile

two of my siblings own kia sedans, my dad owned a kia minivan (all bought new). All of them have held up well without any major issues and get good mileage. I have a kia sedan as well, that has had tons of minor problems, but i got it with almost 100k miles on it and the last owner didn't take great care of it so no huge surprises.

the biggest complaint i have is that the frame seems to be made of aluminum or some shit. seriously just finding a solid point to jack it up is a chore.

kia seems like its turned itself around. i still think hyundais are better though.

Their parts can be expensive as they're mostly OEM.

100k is tricky mileage territory. Pretty much a gamble with anything that's not Toyota or honda, and even then it only takes one mile of bad driving to fuck things up.

Take a risk bro. Souls are incredibly spacious.

Also now that I mention that look for Honda fit. I know loads of dudes that have honda fits for work vehicles. The amount of space in those non gas guzzling cars is phenomenal.

I've rented them several times, and have friends who have them.... the gas wasn't what I expected.... but was good mileage still. The Soul handled nicely, has a wide wheel base. My friends in Canada said it did well in snow, not that in So Cal that'll be a big deal.

As for 100k it's not what it used to be. If you can do a carfax (ask for one) or even a service record from the dealer?

I'd go for it, man.

Kia and Hyundai (their now parent company) really turned their shit around in 2010. Between Kia, Hyundai, Samsung, and LG, Korea has been killing it this decade.

Prior Kia's were always known to be shitty, but when Hyundai scooped them up and revamped their own lines as well, the quality and attention to detail really reached new standards.

Though these days there really aren't too many lemons on the market anymore for commuter cars. It's all really just about personal preference. The only car that still gets shitty safety marks is ironically the Smart Car.

if you bought this thing because you thought it would be safe in a wreck, i've got a bridge to sell you...

the main reason modern cars are safe is because of the crumple zone. there simply isn't enough to crumple without crushing the driver.

We ended up getting a Nissan Cube. It had half the miles on it and Nissan is a pretty solid brand. Plus, it's roomy AF. You look at the outside and you think "small to medium sized box car" then you get in and your voice is echoing.

The payments are insane, tho. Shitty credit is no joke. The tagline for it is " What's lube?" Seriously.

You do what you gotta do. We had no car, and the only way to get one was to finance. For my part, I would prefer to buy everything outright and never finance shit. It would save my asshole a lot of pain from bank dick. Just wasn't an option.
