Although I've read that the heat involved in smoking is not enough to cause aluminum to enter your smoke, I still don't feel totally comfortable with it. One simple solution is to use a glass, wood, brass or stone pipe. Aluminum isn't necessary.

I smoke out of my girlfriends hookah sometimes and you have to put the burning rock thingy on foil to smoke it. I always thought it was sketchy cuz I've heard so many bad things about smoking from foil. Ah well

Yea aluminum is deffinately bad, it hurts your lungs.. basically any flimsy metal like that, mostly silver metals...

umm USE A WOOD PIPE is all I can say.. make one out of something.. dont use:

metals = carcinogens
GLASS = can be very dangerous

glass can be really bad depending on what kind you use... and just dont scrape all the resin in the bowl to the point where you are scraping to see the glass, the bottom most layer of black is NOT resin it is glass soot..

I woulds say no, I've thought it was over time but I don't believe it anymore. Sure aluminum has a possible link to cancer, but fuck butane lighters don't get that hot.

Gentlemen and Ladies. I would like to help clear up some confusion.

Aluminum is ok to smoke out of if it is only aluminum. That is if you get aluminum scrap metal and make a piece out of it or buy some aluminum pieces they will not release harmful chemicals when heated up by a lighter.

However smoking out of certain aluminum products can be detrimental to ones health. For instance if you smoke out of a soda can, that can be very bad for you. It is bad for you because there is a special coating on the inside of the can that helps preserve whatever is on the inside, and when this is heated it does burn off and can enter your lungs. Also anything that has been anodized when heated can release harmful chemicals into the smoke so avoid it if you can. If you need further clarification just ask me.

Second. There is nothing wrong with glassware unless you are using powdered silica and making your own and got lazy so you decided just to use the silica as your pipe.

Fruits are totally safe, if you eat them then you can smoke form them. Read an article, read a book, use common fucking sense. That claim didn't even begin to make sense.

But I still say don't smoke out of the aluminum can because of the protective coating on the inside. I am related to the person that helped develop it, the compound itself is not toxic, however when burned some of its elements can break off and become toxic, however this is just in small amounts and will not hurt you in the short run.

Basically any piece that you will buy from a store, an experienced blower, etc. will be fine to use. Its the industrialized and manufactured objected converted for your smoking pleasure that you have to look out for.
