sleep walking

i lay awake at night while im asleep
quietly in wait of elusive slumber
desperately wishing
silently hoping
reaching for something
but painfully knowing
the sun is coming
moving shadows out of sight
signaling the beginning of the end
of another sleepless night.

and as day breaks
i can finally close my eyes
my watch is finished
and im feeling desperate tired.
the alarm
the shower
shirt shoes and shaving cream
i walk asleep through my life
this deep and desperate dream.
