If you were just a memory
it was a good one
filled with harmonica blues
tap shoes
and headless angels in Forest Lawn.
Running,
drunk, across the strawberry fields
shouting our dreams to purple skies
and we were almost flying.
Planting catnip for the kittens
and making, come true, your wishes
of sweet tea on Victorian porches,
red doors
and Devil Makes Three sing-a-longs in summer.
You be the wine,
I’ll be the whiskey.
Maybe baby,
it was everything it was meant to be.

If you were just a memory
you were a good one.
