Let's read a scientific paper!!!!
Abstract to my thesis I present on tuesday AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!! ! Quite a lot of credit goes to my advisor who helped with the writing.
Seawater intrusion is a major concern for groundwater-quality management of coastal aquifers. Methods to mitigate and remediate seawater intrusion can cost millions. Therefore, early detection of seawater intrusion is important. The San Francisco Public Utilities Commission (SFPUC) monitors for elevated concentrations of common seawater intrusion indicators including 〖Cl〗^-, total dissolved solids (TDS), and electric conductivity (EC) in groundwater of the Westside Basin (100 km2), San Francisco and San Mateo Counties, California. This study characterizes the spatial extent and degree of early-stage seawater intrusion in aquifers of the north and south Westside Basin. I compiled SFPUC data from 82 wells to evaluate Cl-, TDS, EC, and other aqueous geochemical reactions of seawater intrusion using Piper diagrams, correlation matrices, saturation indices, conservative mixing, and inverse models with PHREEQC. Results indicate no seawater intrusion in the north Westside Basin and moderate seawater intrusion in parts of the south Westside Basin. Wells in the north have 0.01 to 1.06 % seawater mix and wells in the south have 0.22 to 55 % seawater mix, with the well with the highest seawater percentage exceeding many of United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) drinking water standards. However the mixing model indicates that as little as 1.1% seawater in the north Westside Basin groundwater will result in chloride concentrations that exceed the USEPA secondary drinking water standard. Therefore careful development and management of groundwater resources is important to avoid seawater intrusion. Anyone here ever publish anything scientific? This is senior thesis I don't think it will become published. When I go onto a masters at some point I will get that baby published. Writing this/ doing this project has been intense!!! p.s anyone read this subforum? I almost never come in here

i havent published anything yet but i am doing research which i will publish hopefully in the spring
the only advice i have is to change the first person sentence "i compiled.." as it doesn't fit the style. it should read something like "SFPUC data was compiled from 82....." otherwise its good! linx us to the paper when you publish it. if you get rejected from publication anywhere keep sending it to other journals until someone accepts it (one at a time!). don't ever think that it won't get published because you can publish anything if you submit it to the right place. my girlfriend publishes articles all the time while some of her colleges are nervous about sending papers in. rejection only means you picked the wrong place to submit it. everything you write is valuable an someone will want to read it
